Abstract

Propositions 1. The assumption that innovation can be regulated towards societally desirable outcomes cannot be maintained. 2. The inclusion of society in innovation requires active involvement of individual citizens beyond representative stakeholders. 3. The most urgent priority for science is to restore societal trust in its practice. 4. In the current research system, the pursuit of science conflicts with the pursuit of profit. 5. The commodification of personal data is morally indefensible. 6. The inclusion of philosophy as a mandatory part of the education system will contribute to the creativity and resilience of the next generations. Propositions belonging to the thesis, entitled "Raising the Sail of Innovation: Philosophical Explorations on Responsible Innovation"
