Abstract

Most of the modern ethics usually substitute the virtue of prudence for the category of duty. The jesuit philosopher Baltasar Gracián actualized the aristotelian-thomistic doctrine of prudence by introducing the concept of "ingenio". Gracián considers that the virtue of prudence is essential for the moral formation of the person. Jorge Vicente Arregui is one of those who have been able to catch best the originality of the "ingenious" morals of Baltasar Gracián
