The method of hermeneutics first became prominent as a method of biblical exegesis. The method Schleiermacher proposes for this is twofold: it has what he calls a grammatical and a psychological moment. Wilhelm Dilthey wanted to develop hermeneutics as a methodology for the humanities. The critique of method in Heidegger and Gadamer was directed against a particular kind of method prevailing in the Cartesian tradition of scientific knowledge. Hans‐Georg Gadamer continues this late Heideggerian line of thought in his philosophical hermeneutics. (...) Paul Ricoeur follows Heidegger and Gadamer in their ontological reorientation of hermeneutics, but deepens hermeneutics further by what we might call a critical turn. Recent developments seem to open up new possibilities for a hermeneutics in which method is neither abolished nor reduced to an instrument designed to find a historical truth, nor understood as a guideline for proceeding within a realm of interpretations or dialogues without exteriority. In seinem neuen Buch vertieft Steven Crowell seine Auffassung der Phänomenologie als Transzendentalphilosophie, die es mit dem normativen Raum des Sinnes (space of meaning) zu tun habe (vgl. Crowell 2001). Sowohl Husserl als auch Heidegger führen aus seiner Sicht innerhalb der Phänomenologie die kantische Tradition der Transzendentalphilosophie weiter, indem sie der Frage nach den „transzendentalen Bedingungen der Konstitution oder Enthüllung des Sinnes“ (S. 1) nachgehen.Vgl. auch den von Steven Crowell mit herausgegebenen Band Transcendental Heidegger (2007). Da der Sinn aber Crowell (...) zufolge Normativität impliziert, hat die von ihm vertretene phänomenologische Transzendentalphilosophie einen neukantianischen Zug (vgl. S. 10). Von den vier Teilen des Buches befassen sich die ersten beiden im Wesentlichen mit Husserl, während der dritte und vierte Teil auf Heidegger eingehen. Dieser Aufbau begründet sich dadurch, dass Crowell anstatt des Bruches vielmehr die Kontinuität zwischen Husserl. (shrink)

Après des décennies durant lesquelles la thèse de la « fin de la métaphysique » semblait aller de soi, on assiste actuellement à une certaine renaissance de la métaphysique dans différents courants de la philosophie contemporaine. Ce regain d’intérêt pour le problème de la métaphysique est également présent dans les interprétations de l’œuvre de Kant. L’article résume les recherches dans ce domaine avant de développer une perspective spécifique basée sur le Preisschrift de Kant sur les progrès de la métaphysique en (...) Allemagne depuis Leibniz et Wolff. Une première section montre comment Kant esquisse une métaphysique spéciale critique qui opère avec des objets posés par l’homme et lui permet de repenser ainsi que de transformer le monde. Une deuxième section traite de la question de savoir si cette conception kantienne peut être comprise comme une « onto-théo-logie » au sens heideggerien du terme. Une conclusion affirme que l’approche de Kant peut difficilement être qualifiée d’« onto-théo-logique », mais qu’elle introduit plutôt un type particulier de métaphysique, inscrit dans l’histoire de la métaphysique spéciale, mais fondé sur la philosophie morale – un type de métaphysique qui pourrait être intéressant dans le cadre des débats contemporains sur le problème de la métaphysique. Investigating Subjectivity examines the importance of a phenomenological account of the subject for the nature and the status of phenomenology, for different themes from practical philosophy and in relation to issues from the philosophy of mind.

The present study examines Adorno’s critique of Husserl and Heidegger by asking whether one can find a systematic equivalent for Adorno’s notion of a,spiritual experience‘ in the works of the two phenomenological thinkers. This question is answered affirmatively. The first part summarizes Adorno’s critique of Husserl and Heidegger; the second analyzes the notion of,spiritual experience‘ in Adorno’s negative dialectics; the third part explains in which sense one can speak of a,spiritual experience‘ in Husserl’s and Heidegger’s phenomenology; the final part describes (...) the main differences of a,spiritual experience‘ in negative dialectics and in phenomenology, i. e. on the one hand the originally epistemological approach of phenomenology and the originally practical approach of negative dialectics and on the other hand the attitude with regards towards metaphysics. László Tengelyi has published in his last book "World and Infinity. On the problem of phenomenological metaphysics" a perspective is presented which is characterized by two main traits. On the one hand, he advocates the thesis that phenomenology enables a new type of metaphysics that does not connect with any ontotheology. He thus approaches a diagnosis of time formulated in the field of the more recent French metaphysical history, for example when Courtine speaks of the end of the "end of (...) metaphysics. On the other hand, Tengelyi explicitly assigns his approach to what he calls a "Wuppertal tradition": the tradition founded by Klaus Held, in which phenomenology as such is understood as a phenomenology of the world. However, Tengelyi deviates from a "hero’s principle": while Held prioritizes a phenomenology of the finiteness of the world inspired by Heidegger, Tengelyi is concerned with the rehabilitation of Husserl’s idea of infinity. In Tengelyi’s work, these two main traits combine to form a phenomenology of the world and its infinite, which sees itself as a renewal of metaphysics with originally phenomenological means. Tengelyi finds the sources of her elaboration primarily in Husserl and Heidegger, in addition in the French phenomenology, with Sartre and Levinas, but also with Richir and Marion, and beyond the phenomenological tradition, he relies on Aristotle and Duns Scotus as well as on Kant, Schelling and Rickert.
