Love and Justice: Consonance or Dissonance? Claremont Studies in the Philosophy of Religion, Conference 2016.Ingolf U. Dalferth & Trevor W. Kimball (eds.) - 2019 - Tübingen, Germany: Mohr Siebeck.
The ideas of love and justice have received a lot of attention within theology, philosophy, psychology, sociology, and neuroscience in recent years. In theology, the theological virtues of faith, hope, and love have become a widely discussed topic again. In philosophy, psychology and neuroscience research into the emotions has led to a renewed interest in the many kinds and forms of love. And in moral philosophy, sociology, and political science questions of justice have been a central issue of debate for (...)

    Lawgivers and Tyrants (Solon, Frr. 9–11 West).T. E. Rihll - 1989 - Classical Quarterly 39 (02):277-.
Solon's fragments 9–11 are preserved in three late authors: frr. 9 and 11 by Diodoros Sikelos , 9.20.2, Plutarch , Solon 3.6 and 30.3 respectively, and Diogenes Laertios , 1.50 and 1.51 respectively; and fr. 10 by Diogenes Laertios alone, 1.49. They are all quoted in the context of Solon's reaction to Peisistratos. Stories on this theme were circulating by the time of the Aristotelian Athenaion Politeia , and Rhodes' scepticism about them is well founded. Its author (...)

    Eupatridai, Archons, and Areopagus.H. T. Wade-Gery - 1931 - Classical Quarterly 25 (1):1-11.
Wilamowitz denies that there was ever any definite status of Nobility in Athens: his reason is, that Solon says nothing of such a thing. E silentio and very dangerous: and in fact a remnant of Privilege of Nobility survived into the fourth century at least; ϕυλοβαασιλεῖς ἐξ Eὐπατριδῶν. This puts it beyond question that Eupatrid-hood was capable of definition, and carried privilege.

Kimball, Roger. Lives of the Mind: The Use and Abuse of Intelligence. [REVIEW]Nemoianu Virgil - 2003 - Review of Metaphysics 57 (1):152-153.
The author of this collection of essays is known as managing editor and regular contributor to the New Criterion, a substantial monthly that has been appearing for twenty-one years and was founded in order to bring a voice of reason and balance inside the agitated and disoriented activities of American intellectual and academic life. The New Criterion sees as one of its central duties the defense of “high-modernist” literature and art against deconstructive “post-modernist” tendencies. Nevertheless, it is also successful in (...)

    Has technology introduced new ethical problems?Kimball P. Marshall - 1999 - Journal of Business Ethics 19 (1):81 - 90.
Drawing on William F. Ogburn's cultural lag thesis, an inherent conflict is proposed between the rapid speed of modern technological advances and the slower speed by which ethical guidelines for utilization of new technologies are developed. Ogburn's cultural lag thesis proposes that material culture advances more rapidly than non-material culture. Technology is viewed as part of material culture and ethical guidelines for technology utilization are viewed as an adaptive aspect of non-material culture. Cultural lag is seen as a critical ethical (...)

Schwinger's Quantum Action Principle: From Dirac's Formulation Through Feynman's Path Integrals, the Schwinger-Keldysh Method, Quantum Field Theory, to Source Theory.Kimball A. Milton - 2015 - Cham: Imprint: Springer.
Starting from the earlier notions of stationary action principles, these tutorial notes shows how Schwinger's Quantum Action Principle descended from Dirac's formulation, which independently led Feynman to his path-integral formulation of quantum mechanics. Part I brings out in more detail the connection between the two formulations, and applications are discussed. Then, the Keldysh-Schwinger time-cycle method of extracting matrix elements is described. Part II will discuss the variational formulation of quantum electrodynamics and the development of source theory.

    O tempo E a física.Solon Pereira da Cruz Filho - 1996 - Veritas – Revista de Filosofia da Pucrs 41 (162):323-331.
A principal proposta desse trabalho é mostrar a relatividade do tempo.

    What’s Wrong with Argumentum ad Baculum? Reasons, Threats, and Logical Norms.Robert H. Kimball - 2006 - Argumentation 20 (1):89-100.
A dialogue-based analysis of informal fallacies does not provide a fully adequate explanation of our intuitions about what is wrong with ad baculum and of when it is admissible and when it is not. The dialogue-based analysis explains well why mild, benign threats can be legitimate in some situations, such as cooperative bargaining and negotiation, but does not satisfactorily account for what is objectionable about more malicious uses of threats to coerce and to intimidate. I propose an alternative deriving partly (...)

In lieu of an abstract, here is a brief excerpt of the content:A Plea for PityRobert H. KimballIntroductionDoes the ability to feel pity toward the unfortunate represent one of humanity's better instincts, on par with the capacity for love, compassion, and forgiveness? Or is pity actually one of our morally baser emotions, like jealousy, envy, or hatred, because pity can include contempt for its object and an attitude of morally reprehensible superiority on the part of the pitier? Surprisingly, there is (...)

At the very beginning of L’Homme-Machine, La Mettrie claims that Leibnizians with their monads have “rather spiritualized matter than materialized the soul”; a few years later Pierre-Louis Moreau de Maupertuis, President of the Berlin Academy of Sciences and natural philosopher with a strong interest in the modes of transmission of ‘genetic’ information, conceived of living minima which he termed molecules, “endowed with desire, memory and intelligence,” in his Système de la nature ou Essai sur les corps organisés. The inclination of modern jurists to associate lawyers with doctors: Plato's response inGorgias 464–465. [REVIEW]Bruce Kimball - 1988 - Journal of Medical Humanities and Bioethics 9 (1):17-31.
From the turn of the century, jurists have tended to associate lawyers with doctors as professionals and tried to ground this association in an analogy between law and medicine. Paradoxically, such comparisons suggest that American law and medicine are not analogous, while an analogy proposed by Plato illumines more fundamental respects in which law and medicine might be truly analogous.
