Various international authorities have insisted on the importance of ethical learning in higher education for would-be professionals, including students of Business Administration. As the process of creating the European Higher Education Area gathers pace, first steps have been taken to explicitly incorporate ethics in the common European Qualifications Framework. However, the authors of this study show how in the course of the EQF development process, the consideration given to ethical qualifications has been curtailed and subjected to serious limitations. In this (...) article, the authors review the historical development and the main elements of the EQF. Then, they analyze the gradual elimination of ethics within the EQF. Finally, they highlight the implications of this gradual elimination and propose avenues for further research. (shrink)

Advances in DNA technology and the discovery of DNA polymorphisms have permitted the creation of DNA databases of individuals for the purpose of criminal investigation.Many ethical and legal problems arise in the preparation of a DNA database, and these problems are especially important when one analyses the legal regulations on the subject.In this paper three main groups of possibilities, three systems, are analysed in relation to databases. The first system is based on a general analysis of the population; the second (...) one is based on the taking of samples for a particular list of crimes, and a third is based only on the specific analysis of each case. The advantages and disadvantages of each system are compared and controversial issues are then examined. We found the second system to be the best choice for Spain and other European countries with a similar tradition when we weighed the rights of an individual against the public's interest in the prosecution of a crime. In recent years, a great deal of evidence has accumulated on the health risks and environmental impacts of some herbicides. Both conventional agriculture and agroecology are searching for alternatives to address the challenges posed by the consequences of herbicide use. In this search, peasant and indigenous agroecosystems have much to contribute since their crops evolved thousands of years ago together with diverse communities of weeds, and farmers have carried out sophisticated strategies to manage them. Through participant observation, semi-structured interviews, free (...) lists, and botanical collection, we document a milpa design that integrates and manages spontaneous vegetation to take advantage of its presence and minimize risks of crop loss. The objective of this article is to critically contrast agroecological mechanisms in this milpa design which matches the prevention principle with a set of recommendations recognized as preventive in conventional weed science. En estas páginas se reúnen tres trabajos elaborados en diferentes fechas, pero estrechamente interrelacionados bajo la intención global de aportar algunos elementos a la evaluación de las opciones metodológicas y epistemológicas en el campo de la investigación en Ciencias Sociales. Esos tres escritos nacen de la preocupación por los riesgos a que se ven expuestos los procesos de producción de conocimientos en el área social, sobre todo si consideramos que, dadas ciertas circunstancias del debate epistemológico actual, casi a diario aparecen (...) ofertas bajo la con?signa del nuevo paradigma o del paradigma emergente. Ante estas ofertas suele ocurrir que unos se muestran entusiasmados y otros incrédulos, pero muy pocos, relativamente, se dedican a evaluarlas. Así, sin evaluar las distintas opciones, la investigación social podría llegar a extremos de li?bertinaje académico, inoperancia y descrédito, incumpliendo de ese modo con el delicado compromiso que tienen los investigadores -tesistas, tuto?res y profesores- con respecto a las necesidades de la sociedad actual. En general, el supuesto inicial más importante aquí es que no pode?mos asumir ciegamente una determinada oferta metodológica y epistemo?lógica, por atractiva que parezca, si previamente no la sometemos a una crítica dura, desinteresada y honesta. Bajo esos términos, tomando en cuenta el predominio y la creciente influencia que han llegado a ejercer las propuestas del «paradigma emergente» sobre noveles investigadores sin que éstos dispongan de un cuerpo amplio de contrargumentaciones y señalamientos divergentes, los trabajos aquí presentados se orientan a deslindar aspectos que parecen significativos para una crítica severa y puntual. Esto es aun más urgente si consideramos que, apartando el caso de muchos investigadores respetables y serios que trabajan bajo la óptica del paradigma emergente, recientemente han pululado las posiciones anárqui?cas y descabelladas que también se declaran bajo esa misma óptica. Y, según parece, es aquí donde late un importante peligro para la investiga?ción social. Esperamos que de los trabajos aquí recogidos puedan también deducirse esas diferencias. (shrink)

Localization Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) represent a research topic with increasing interest due to their numerous applications. However, the viability of these systems is compromised by the attained localization uncertainties once implemented, since the network performance is highly dependent on the sensors location. The Node Location Problem (NLP) aims to obtain the optimal distribution of sensors for a particular environment, a problem already categorized as NP-Hard. Furthermore, localization WSN usually perform a sensor selection for determining which nodes are to be (...) utilized for maximizing the achieved accuracy. This problem, defined as the Sensor Selection Problem (SSP), has also been categorized as NP-Hard. While different metaheuristics have been proposed for attaining a near optimal solution in both problems, no approach has considered the two problems simultaneously, thus resulting in suboptimal solutions since the SSP is biased by the actual node distribution once deployed. In this paper, a combined approach of both problems simultaneously is proposed, thus considering the SSP within the NLP. Furthermore, a novel metaheuristic combining the Black Widow Optimization (BWO) algorithm and the Variable Neighbourhood Descent Chains (VND-Chains) local search, denominated as BWO-VND-Chains, is particularly devised for the first time in the author’s best knowledge for the NLP, resulting in a more efficient and robust optimization technique. Finally, a comparison of different metaheuristic algorithms is proposed over an actual urban scenario, considering different sensor selection criteria in order to attain the best methodology and selection technique. Results show that the newly devised algorithm with the SSP criteria optimization achieves mean localization uncertainties up to 19.66 % lower than traditional methodologies. (shrink)

On September 19th, 2005, an Spanish blogger wrote a post against blog nets. In that post he showed a kierkegaardian interpretation of blogging issue. It was the first time someone was using strictly philosophical categories in the blogosphere. On 2006, February, the 23rd, Rafael Herrera Guillén made a philosophical dramatization about this issue in a game of heteronyms.

Este estudio da cinco pasos. En el primero se caracterizan los orígenes del análisis reflexivo. Bajo el título “origen” se incluyen, principalmente, las motivaciones y el campo de aplicación al cual está referido. En el segundo paso, se presentan las características del análisis reflexivo, sobre todo en términos de supuestos y de la relación del mismo con el canon fenomenológico de estirpe husserliana. En el tercer paso, se valora el alcance del análisis reflexivo como técnica; en cierto modo, se estudia (...) cómo puede operar con y sin la fenomenología como enfoque, teoría o método integral dentro de la investigación. En el cuarto paso, se establece cómo el análisis reflexivo ha encontrado unas alternativas de aplicación, por parte de Lester Embree; sobre todo, se mira el enlace que tiene o puede tener con la individuación al tenor de la lectura de Ideas II de Husserl. Como cierre, en el quinto paso, se establece críticamente el alcance del análisis reflexivo y las posibilidades que ofrece para el desarrollo o continuación de la fenomenología, en el contexto de las vertientes contemporáneas sobre este enfoque.The article is divided into five moments. The first one presents the origins of the reflective analysis; under the title “origin” is included, mainly, the motivations and the scope to which it is referred. The second one refers to the characteristics of the reflective analysis, especially in terms of assumptions and relate to the same lineage husserlian’s phenomenological canon. The third one assesses the scope of the reflective analysis as technique; in this way, it explores how can operate with and without the Phenomenology as approach, theory or method integral within the research. The fourth one sets how reflective analysis has found some alternatives of the application by Lester Embree; most of all, the link that has or can have is regarded with to the individuation in way of Ideas II by Husserl. Finally, it sets critically the scope of the reflective analysis and the possibilities for devel-opment or continuation of Phenomenology in the context of the contemporary approach in this perspective. El artículo reconoce los aportes que la Dra. Julia V. Iribarne realizó en torno a la ética en perspectiva fenomenológica, especialmente en su obra De la ética a la metafísica. Con base en estas contribuciones se responden tres preguntas: ¿cómo la generatividad y la temporalidad se convierten en estructuras de la eticidad? ¿Cómo hay, fenomenológicamente, una metafísica en cuanto se conoce la mismidad y la alteridad trascendentalmente? ¿Es Dios para la ética un fictum o un factum? A modo de colofón (...) se alude a la centralidad de la mente y el esclarecimiento de los estados mentales como avance en el fundamento y despliegue de la ética.This article identify the contributions that Dra. Julia V. Iribarne made around ethics in phenomenological perspective and especially her work Ethics in the way of metaphysics. According to her contributions we could answer these three questions: How generativity and temporality becomes structures of the ethics? How is possible, phenomenologically, a metaphysics if we know self-hood and otherness transcendentally? Is God a fictum or factum for the ethics? As a final reference, we will talk about the centrality of mind and we will try to clarify the rationale and mental states like a development of the ethics. (shrink)

Resumen Tanto la migración como el exilio, al lado del extranjero y el extraño, han sido objeto de la investigación fenomenológica. En este estudio se da un pequeño paso con respecto a la fenomenología de la migración. En particular, se lleva a cabo una profundización en torno a un estrato fundante: el éxodo en sus intrincadas relaciones con estratos tales como la frontera y la diáspora. Así, centramos la atención en el éxodo como experiencia y en los estratos protofundadores de (...) la comprensión de la migración. Con esta mirada, se dan tres pasos, a saber, se caracteriza la relación existente entre 1. El éxodo y la constitución trascendental; se establece la interrelación entre 2. La frontera y la comunidad de pertenencia; y, finalmente, se mira cómo 3. La diáspora opera la constitución trascendental de la esperanza. A manera de 4. Conclusiones se vuelve la atención a la constitución trascendental como fundamento de la ética.Migration like exile, alongside the stranger and the stranger, have been the subject of phenomenological research. In this study a small step is taken regarding the phenomenology of migration. In particular, a deepening is carried out around a founding stratum: the exodus in its intricate relation- ships with strata such as the border and the diaspora. Thus, we focus attention on the exodus as experience and on the foundational layers of the understanding of migration. With this view, three steps are taken, namely, the relationship between the exodus and the transcendental constitution is characterized; the interrelation is established between 2. The border and the community of belonging; and, finally, we look at how 3. The diaspora operates the transcendental constitution of hope. By way of 4. El problema de la enajenación del ser humano es una constante en la obra teórica y narrativa de José Revueltas. El hecho de que el tema carcelario aparezca con frecuencia en sus relatos y novelas, en algunos de los cuales la cárcel deviene un personaje más, obedece precisamente a su interés en dicho problema. Como aquí se muestra, Revueltas no sólo buscaba exponer y analizar la enajenación humana, sino a la vez explorar posibles vías de liberación. De ahí que, mientras (...) que en sus primeros trabajos se centró en el sistema penitenciario, gradualmente pasó a abordar en ellos el encierro en el espacio público y en la propia conciencia. The dissemination and reception of Bernard Bolzano's ideas were not only mediated by his personal circumstances and context but also by the vicissitudes of his work. This paper traces the fate of his works from his death in 1848 to the publication of the first volume of his Gesamtausgabe in 1969, and it does so with the help of one of the last published volumes of this edition, namely the Bolzano‐Gesamtbibliographie 1804–1999. As the paper shows, this book is more than (...) a mere list of publications and constitutes a highly valuable resource for anyone interested in Bolzano studies, the use of which is explained in detail. ABSTRACT:Giving without the expectation of reward is difficult to understand in organizational contexts. In opposition to a logic based on self-interest or a sense of duty, a “logic of gift” has been proposed as a way to understand the phenomenon of free, unconditional giving. However, the rationale behind, and effects of, this logic have been under-explored. This paper responds by first clarifying the three logics of action—the logic of exchange, the logic of duty, and the logic of gift—and then explains (...) how their balanced integration promises to enhance organizational life and outcomes. Having explicated the unique character and contributions of the logic of gift, the paper further suggests practical implications for management. Encouraging the logic of gift fosters more humane relationships within organizations and to enable individuals to be generous in ways that inspire trust and promote creativity. (shrink)

Numerous researchers have examined the antecedents of trust between managers and subordinates. Recent studies conclude that their influence varies depending on whether what is being examined is a manager's trust in a subordinate or a subordinate's trust in a manager. However, the reasons given to justify this phenomenon present limitations. This article offers a new theoretical approach that relates the influence of each antecedent to Aristotelian forms of reasoning, ethical, and instrumental. The proposed approach shows that the influence of each (...) antecedent depends on which rationality prevails in the person who trusts. The contribution of this article is to better explain the phenomenon of interpersonal trust formation and its logic, while offering at the same time several practical implications for managers interested in developing an organizational culture based on trust. The article begins with a literature review of more relevant empirical studies analyzing superior–subordinate trust formation and presents some theoretical limitations of the arguments described in these works. Then, it offers a new theorerical approach based on Aristotelian thought to explain the influence of the antecedents of trust in management–subordinate relationships. The theoretical contribution is then confirmed in an empirical study of 163 mid-level managers in Spain. (shrink)

Understanding what motivates employees is essential to the success of organizational objectives. Therefore, properly capturing and explaining the full range of such motivations are important. However, the classical and most popular theories describing employee motives have neglected, if not omitted entirely, the importance of the ethical and spiritual dimensions of motivation. This has led to a model of a person as self-interested, amoral, and non-spiritual. In this paper, we attempt to expose this omission and offer a more complete taxonomy of (...) motivations which include these dimensions. Although more work will need to be done to fully develop the ethical and spiritual dimensions of motivation, the expanded taxonomy will provide the foundations and serve as a guide for such further research. Furthermore, this new categorization of motivations brings out the full dimensions of being human, which promises to lead to improved management practices with regard to employees and foster greater human flourishing in the workplace. Today, in both theory and practice, the concepts of corporate social responsibility and ethics are not necessarily related. Organizations can demonstrate high levels of social proactivity in their CSR policies with or without having laudable levels of ethical quality or virtuousness. This article introduces the concepts of organizational ethical quality to evaluate the moral excellence of CSR actions and policies, identifying and categorizing varying levels ranging from the absence of ethical virtuousness, termed immoral CSR, to high levels of moral CSR, (...) or ethical virtuousness. High MCSR is the product of both high levels of OEQ in conjunction with more proactive CSR policies based on social action. (shrink)

En el ámbito hispánico, la investigación sobre los marcadores discursivos ha experimentado un gran auge. Una parte del interés se ha centrado en la descripción de estas formas en variedades específicas del español. En este contexto, el objetivo central de este trabajo es caracterizar las funciones de _y así_ en el español de la Ciudad de México. Para tal fin, se consultaron tres corpus orales de esta variedad y se analizaron las ocurrencias de _y así_ en posición final de enunciado (...) o intervención. De acuerdo con el análisis, _y así_ puede cumplir cinco funciones: (i) apéndice de (in)conclusión, (ii) marca de final de cita, (iii) forma abreviada de _y así sucesivamente_, (iv) expletivo y (v) marcador de cierre. Todas estas funciones ya han sido descritas en otros apéndices, a excepción de la forma abreviada de _y así sucesivamente_, por lo que se considera particular del marcador que aquí se analiza. Por último, se destaca la necesidad de llevar a cabo el análisis de esta forma en otras variedades del español. (shrink)

En este artículo se pretenden articular y sustentar los planteamientos del enfoque en Ciencia, Tecnología y Sociedad (CTS) en el campo social y educativo con la propuesta de Ulrich Beck de acuerdo con sus teorías de la individualización y de la modernidad reflexiva. A continuación, se argumentan las diferentes posturas de Beck, iniciando con la modernidad, sus fases (primera modernidad y segunda modernidad), la individualización y su relación con el Enfoque. Así pues, se presenta la síntesis del artículo en el (...) siguiente mapa conceptual, en el cual se establecen las relaciones entre la teoría de la individualización de Beck y el enfoque en Ciencia, Tecnología y Sociedad, partiendo de los procesos de modernización y sus fases. Resumen: La concepción del ser humano como animal tecnológico, junto con la idea del progreso como sustento de la civilización, plantea varias cuestiones que precisan ser consideradas con detenimiento, entre ellas qué se entiende por progreso y qué sentido y valor tiene la tecnología. El caso de la realidad virtual patentiza de hecho la habitual asunción de la tecnología como algo ajeno a la producción cultural, humana. Sin embargo, la tecnología comparte nuestros límites y está sometida a nuestro designio, por (...) más que se le quiera asumir independiente de nosotros y por más que se intente reemplazar nuestra interacción con el espacio natural por una relación enteramente controlada en un medio virtual.: The idea of the human being as a technological animal, coupled with the idea of progress as the very foundation of civilization, raises several issues that need to be carefully considered, including the meaning of progress and the meaning and value of technology. The case of virtual reality indeed makes explicit the common assumption of technology as something alien to cultural, human production. However, technology shares our limits and it is subject to our plans, regardless of whether someone insists on assuming it independent of ourselves or insists on replacing our interaction with natural space by an interaction in an entirely controlled virtual environment. El Misterio de la Trinidad constituye el centro de la fe cristiana. Para la teología es también la verdad fundamental, que ilumina las demás realidades creídas. Esta situación indica que ha quedado atrás el “esplendido aislamiento” de la doctrina trinitaria que denunciaban los grandes teólogos del siglo XX. El presente trabajo pretende mostrar los logros de esta renovación trinitaria de la teología, especialmente en los ámbitos de la antropología teológica, la teología de la familia, la eclesiología y la doctrina social (...) de la Iglesia. Junto con los frutos maduros de esta nueva dimensión trinitaria de la teología, no se ocultan sus límites y riesgos. Creemos que esta nueva proposición trinitaria de las verdades cristianas puede ser válida en nuestro contexto postmoderno y postsecular. (shrink)

Drawing on the hypothesis that workplace harassment may be considered a genre of negative communication serving malicious purposes, the purposes of this paper are threefold. In the first place, we consider the difficulties involved in proving workplace harassment before administration or in court. In the second place, we analyse the challenges workplace harassment poses to linguistic analysis, with special reference to genre theory, and suggest ways of making the theory compatible with the new linguistic input the language of harassment provides. (...) Finally, we illustrate the knowledge the expert linguist can offer from the perspective of genre theory in cases involving workplace harassment. In order not to build a castle in the sky, our analysis is grounded in an exemplary case study relating to a specific type of harassment in the workplace that Leymann named « workplace mobbing ». The concept of representation in public law is attracting more and more interest; specially gives many problems in the Parliament how representation, so as a representative institution. In this place is plained a principal problem: the new function of Parliament and the roll of parliamentary's Government control. We assist to the end of the dogma of the separation of powers. So we need to distinguish between control by the Parliament and control in the Parliament; the first are less effective because (...) significate the Government control of his own majority; the second is the critical capacity of minorities against the Government; this last are a effective control who's should create public opinion. This does not imply the suppression of public representation idea. By suggesting a revision of these idea does not mean that they should disappear. It seems wise to conserve the concept of representation providing it refer to the particular situation of the autoritas and his decision, whenever he appers as a victim of the procers in which take part the after side of problem: the souveragnity. El sentido como cabe o entre en el orden de lo público, en laCondición humana de Hannah Arendt, es de suyo esclarecedorde las posibilidades del lenguaje; y, de retorno, el lenguaje comofundamento para la comprensión de lo político (público); en estosdos lados se presenta como una dialéctica del fluir de la acción–que quizá por igual puede llamarse: la experiencia humana delmundo. Interesa, igualmente, ver la distinción entre el fluir –en elmodo del río heraclíteo– del sentido y la emergencia –en el (...) mododel nacimiento del agua en una fuente. Nuestra hipótesis es queen el pensamiento de Arendt tiene más el segundo que el primersentido. ¿Cómo se relacionan en este caso tiempo y sentido? Es,como telón de fondo, la pregunta que atraviesa nuestro “ensayode comprensión”1. La ponencia se desarrollo en cinco apartados;en el apartado, I La preeminencia del derecho, se mira el enlaceentre la teoría política de la autora y juicio de Eichmann; en elapartado II, La identidad narrativa, se estudia la primacía de lajustificación en mediante la cual el sujeto se construye en el relatoy, así mismo, el ir hacia o la apertura de sentido que ofrece elmismo; en el apartado III, Lo público, se estudia cómo la intersubjetividades terreno común para llegar a construir lo propio, la esfera de propiedad; en el apartado IV, El lenguaje, se mira sucarácter de entre, en medio de o cabe tanto en las relacionesintersubjetivas como en la comprensión subjetiva de mundo; finalmente,el apartado V, La persona, y a manera de conclusión sediscute la preeminencia de las tesis agustinianas sobre la persona–su carácter de hipóstasis al ser, al tiempo, entre y suidad– encuanto relación, así mismo se discuten los alcances y limitacionesde la tesis de la autora siempre que se evalúen a la luz de la perspectivafenomenológico-genética para el estudio de la políticacomo cosa misma. Enseñar el Holocausto en la Educación Secundaria es una tarea irrenunciable al tiempo que compleja, por su condición de acontecimiento extremo y casi inefable. El tratamiento de la Historia desde el punto de vista de los vencidos y la memoria como herramienta movilizadora, ofrecen posibilidades educativas muy valiosas para afrontar la enseñanza del Holocausto. Lo mismo ocurre con la educación en valores democráticos, que se presenta como una tarea necesaria en un contexto, el actual, de renacimiento de los movimientos neofascistas (...) y de extrema derecha, y de banalización y negación del genocidio judío. Para este cometido, la fotografía se presenta como una fuente de información primaria útil para llevar el método histórico al aula y como un recurso didáctico motivador en una sociedad híper saturada de imágenes. Este artículo se propone: I. Dilucidar la pasividad en tanto campo de investigación fenomenológica para establecer que el cuidado del alma es la reflexividad que sabe el peso de la misma. II. Presentar el chorismós como la condición de posibilidad de ser uno uno mismo, y de poder llevar a cabo la tarea de la libertad. III. Establecer la libertad como metanoia, es decir, la puesta en juego del despliegue de los potenciales físicos y anímicos que afirma un horizonte de (...) posibilidad y responsabilidad en tanto transformación absoluta de lo mismo en lo otro. IV. Sustentar que lo metafísico de la libertad radica en que se proyecta en una futuridad infinita, pero se arraiga en el suelo de lo que ha posibilitado el presente viviente, aquí y ahora, como ha sido donado. V. Para finalizar se dilucida —como anexo— la propuesta del pensador checo en torno a la conversión como condición de posibilidad de la formación. Todos estos temas tienen como hilo conductor el problema de la experiencia pasiva en el pensamiento de Jan Patočka y lo que podría considerarse como los límites del eurocentrismo. (shrink)

En la introducción se indica el espíritu con el que se convocó el Dossier sobre perspectivas de la fenomenología en América Latina, tendencias emergentes. El segundo apartado refiere, indicativamente, la recepción de la fenomenología en la región. El tercer apartado, sumariamente, hace una breve reconstrucción de este mismo proceso en Colombia. El cuarto apartado muestra, también sumariamente, algunas de las perspectivas temática de la Fenomenología en la región. Finalmente, se caracteriza el contenido del Dossier.

The birth of bioethics in Spain—and the rest of Europe—has not necessarily been a replication of what happened in North America, despite the arguments made by a number of mainstream American authors. From a European perspective, this thesis looks incomplete at best, if not entirely erroneous. Let us see why.
