    The Status of Brain in the Concept of Mind.Henry Cohen - 1952 - Philosophy 27 (102):195 - 210.
It is with no feigned modesty that I acknowledge, as a limited and superficial student of philosophy, the honour you have done me by your invitation to deliver the Manson Lecture. But if the honour is undeserved, it is by fortuitous circumstance the more appreciated. Dr. Manson was a family doctor in Warrington, Lancs., with whom I was privileged to have close professional associations. He was a man of many parts who regarded the isolation of medicine from philosophy as an (...)

Experimental and theoretical evidence for a similar localization of words encoded through different modalities.Sébastien Dubé & Henri Cohen - 1999 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 22 (2):285-286.
In his target article, Pulvermüller addresses the issue of word localization in the brain. It is not clear, however, how cell assemblies are localized in the case of sensory deprivation. Pulvermüller's claim is that words learned via other modalities (i.e., sign languages) should be localized differently. It is argued, however, based on experimental and theoretical ground, that they should be found in a similar place.

Consciousness and Cognition: Fragments of Mind and Brain.Henri Cohen & Brigitte Stemmer (eds.) - 2007 - Boston: Academic Press.
What were the circumstances that led to the development of our cognitive abilities from a primitive hominid to an essentially modern human? The answer to this question is of profound importance to understanding our present nature. Since the steep path of our cognitive development is the attribute that most distinguishes humans from other mammals, this is also a quest to determine human origins. This collection of outstanding scientific problems and the revelation of the many ways they can be addressed indicates (...)

Consumer genetic technologies: ethical and legal considerations.I. Glenn Cohen, Nita A. Farahany, Henry T. Greely & Carmel Shachar (eds.) - 2021 - New York, NY: Cambridge University Press.
For the average person, genetic testing has two very different faces. The rise of genetic testing is often promoted as the democratization of genetics by enabling individuals to gain insights into their unique makeup. At the same time, many have raised concerns that genetic testing and sequencing reveal intensely personal and private information. As these technologies become increasingly available as consumer products, the ethical, legal, and regulatory challenges presented by genomics are ever looming. Assembling multidisciplinary experts, this volume evaluates the (...)

Oral and visual language are not processed in like fashion: Constraints on the products of the SOC.Christophe Parisse & Henri Cohen - 2002 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 25 (3):349-350.
The SOC framework does not take into account the fact that the oral modality consists of purely transient data, which is not the case for the other modalities. This, however, has important consequences on the nature of oral and written language, on language consciousness, on child language development, and on the history of linguistics.

"Capital is moved as much and as little by the degradation and final depopulation of the human race, as by the probable fall of the earth into the sun. Apres moi le deluge! is the watchword of every capitalist and of every capitalist nation" (Marx, CAPITAL Vol 1, 380-381).

  23. Exploitation via Labour Power in Marx.Henry Laycock - 1999 - The Journal of Ethics 3 (2):121--131.
Marx''s account of capitalist exploitation is undermined by inter-related confusions surrounding the notion of labour power. These confusions relate to [i] what labour power is, [ii] what happens to labour power in the labour market, and [iii] what the epistemic status of labour power is (the issue of appearance and reality). The central theses of the paper are [a] that property ownership is the wrong model for understanding the exploitation of labour, and [b] that the concept of exploitation is linked (...)

    Critical notice, G. A. Cohen, Marx's Theory of History. [REVIEW]Henry Laycock - 1980 - Canadian Journal of Philosophy 10 (2):335-356.
Mills writes: G. A. Cohen's influential ‘technological determinist’ reading of Marx's theory of history rests in part on an interpretation of Marx's use of ‘material’ whose idiosyncrasy has been insufficiently noticed. Cohen takes historical materialism to be asserting the determination of the social by the material/asocial, viz. ‘socio‐neutral’ facts about human nature and human rationality which manifest themselves in a historical tendency for the forces of production to develop. This paper reviews Marx's writings to demonstrate the extensive textual (...)
