Reduced coproducts of compact hausdorff spaces.Paul Bankston - 1987 - Journal of Symbolic Logic 52 (2):404-424.
By analyzing how one obtains the Stone space of the reduced product of an indexed collection of Boolean algebras from the Stone spaces of those algebras, we derive a topological construction, the "reduced coproduct", which makes sense for indexed collections of arbitrary Tichonov spaces. When the filter in question is an ultrafilter, we show how the "ultracoproduct" can be obtained from the usual topological ultraproduct via a compactification process in the style of Wallman and Frink. We prove theorems dealing (...)

Duality for Coalgebras for Vietoris and Monadicity.Marco Abbadini & Ivan di Liberti - forthcoming - Journal of Symbolic Logic:1-34.
We prove that the opposite of the category of coalgebras for the Vietoris endofunctor on the category of compact Hausdorff spaces is monadic over $\mathsf {Set}$. We deliver an analogous result for the upper, lower, and convex Vietoris endofunctors acting on the category of stably compact spaces. We provide axiomatizations of the associated (infinitary) varieties. This can be seen as a version of Jónsson–Tarski duality for modal algebras beyond the zero-dimensional setting.

Modal Operators on Rings of Continuous Functions.Guram Bezhanishvili, Luca Carai & Patrick J. Morandi - 2022 - Journal of Symbolic Logic 87 (4):1322-1348.
It is a classic result in modal logic, often referred to as Jónsson-Tarski duality, that the category of modal algebras is dually equivalent to the category of descriptive frames. The latter are Kripke frames equipped with a Stone topology such that the binary relation is continuous. This duality generalizes the celebrated Stone duality for boolean algebras. Our goal is to generalize descriptive frames so that the topology is an arbitrary compact Hausdorff topology. For this, instead of working with (...)

We investigate some basic descriptive set theory for countably based completely quasi-metrizable topological spaces, which we refer to as quasi-Polish spaces. These spaces naturally generalize much of the classical descriptive set theory of Polish spaces to the non-Hausdorff setting. We show that a subspace of a quasi-Polish space is quasi-Polish if and only if it is Π20 source in the Borel hierarchy. Quasi-Polish spaces can be characterized within the framework of Type-2 Theory of Effectivity as precisely the countably (...)

The elements of can be identified with ultrafilters of the Boolean algebra of quantifier‐free L‐sentences, and therefore one can define a Stone topology on. This topology on generalizes the topology of the space of n‐marked groups. We introduce a natural ultrametric on, and show that the Stone topology on (...)

    The Dual Adjunction between MV-algebras and Tychonoff Spaces.Vincenzo Marra & Luca Spada - 2012 - Studia Logica 100 (1-2):253-278.
We offer a proof of the duality theorem for finitely presented MV-algebras and rational polyhedra, a folklore and yet fundamental result. Our approach develops first a general dual adjunction between MV-algebras and subspaces of Tychonoff cubes, endowed with the transformations that are definable in the language of MV-algebras. We then show that this dual adjunction restricts to a duality between semisimple MV-algebras and closed subspaces of Tychonoff cubes. The duality theorem for finitely presented objects is obtained by a further specialisation. (...)

In set theory without the axiom of choice math formula, three-space type results for the Hahn-Banach property are provided. We deduce that for every Hausdorff compact scattered space K, the Banach space C of real continuous functions on K satisfies the continuous Hahn-Banach property in math formula. We also prove in math formula Rudin's theorem: “Radon measures on Hausdorff compact scattered spaces are discrete”.

Valueless Measures on Pointless Spaces.Tamar Lando - 2022 - Journal of Philosophical Logic 52 (1):1-52.
On our ordinary representations of space, space is composed of indivisible, dimensionless points; extended regions are understood as infinite sets of points. Region-based theories of space reverse this atomistic picture, by taking as primitive several relations on extended regions, and recovering points as higher-order abstractions from regions. Over the years, such theories have focused almost exclusively on the topological and geometric structure of space. We introduce to region-based theories of space a new primitive binary relation (...)

The Rasiowa-Sikorski Lemma is shown to be equivalent to the conjunction of the Ultrafilter Theorem and the Baire Category Theorem for compact Hausdorff spaces.

In this work we present some new contributions towards two different directions in the study of modal logic. First we employ tense logics to provide a temporal interpretation of intuitionistic quantifiers as “always in the future” and “sometime in the past.” This is achieved by modifying the Gödel translation and resolves an asymmetry between the standard interpretation of intuitionistic quantifiers. Then we generalize the classic Gelfand–Naimark–Stone duality between compact Hausdorff spaces and uniformly complete bounded archimedean $\ell $ -algebras to (...)

This paper first appeared fall of 1990 in the Journal of Theoretical Probability, vol. 3, no. 4, pp. 611—626. A compact complex space X is viewed as a 1-st order structure by taking predicates for analytic subsets of X, X \times X, … as basic relations. Let f: X→ Y be a proper surjective holomorphic map between complex spaces and set Xy:=f-1(y). We show that the set Ak,d:={y∈ Y: the number of d-dimensional components of Xy is compact complex spaces and f: X→ (...)

Degree Spectra of Homeomorphism Type of Compact Polish Spaces.Mathieu Hoyrup, Takayuki Kihara & Victor Selivanov - forthcoming - Journal of Symbolic Logic:1-32.
A Polish space is not always homeomorphic to a computably presented Polish space. In this article, we examine degrees of non-computability of presenting homeomorphic copies of compact Polish spaces. We show that there exists a $\mathbf {0}'$ -computable low $_3$ compact Polish space which is not homeomorphic to a computable one, and that, for any natural number $n\geq 2$, there exists a Polish space $X_n$ such that exactly the high $_{n}$ -degrees are required to (...)

    Morley Degree in Unidimensional Compact Complex Spaces.Dale Radin - 2006 - Journal of Symbolic Logic 71 (2):569 - 585.
Let A be the category of all reduced compact complex spaces, viewed as a multi-sorted first order structure, in the standard way. Let U be a sub-category of A, which is closed under the taking of products and analytic subsets, and whose morphisms include the projections. Under the assumption that Th(U) is unidimensional, we show that Morley rank is equal to Noetherian dimension, in any elementary extension of U. As a result, we are able to show that Morley degree (...)

Open subspaces of locally compact metric spaces.Mark Mandelkern - 1993 - Mathematical Logic Quarterly 39 (1):213-216.
Although classically every open subspace of a locally compact space is also locally compact, constructively this is not generally true. This paper provides a locally compact remetrization for an open set in a compact metric space and constructs a one-point compactification. MSC: 54D45, 03F60, 03F65.

    Compactly generated Hausdorff locales.Martín H. Escardó - 2006 - Annals of Pure and Applied Logic 137 (1-3):147-163.
We say that a Hausdorff locale is compactly generated if it is the colimit of the diagram of its compact sublocales connected by inclusions. We show that this is the case if and only if the natural map of its frame of opens into the second Lawson dual is an isomorphism. More generally, for any Hausdorff locale, the second dual of the frame of opens gives the frame of opens of the colimit. In order to arrive at (...)
