Segundo as descobertas da Física Moderna (Física Quántica), Realidade (Wirklichkeit em Alemão) não é mais o real que nos é familiar e tangível (cousal), mas algo bem diferente, tanto espacial como temporalmente, algo claramente mais aberto. Trata-se de algo holístico, uma Gestalt de carácter a-material, uma relação depura inter-conexão ("a-dvaita"), uma potencialidade inseparável, similar ao amor espiritual e omnicompreensivo. Ou seja, segundo o autor, a realidade está possuída por uma tonalidade processual, uma inspiração holística e intimamente conectada, uma transformação, um (...) processo contínuo de criação e aniquilamento, com o potencial de se manifestar a si mesma de um modo em que predomina uma essencial complementaridade dual energético-material. Assim, para o autor do artigo, o mundo em que vivemos, Wirklichkeit, não pode ser propriamente compreendido em termos puramente ontológicos. Segundo o autor, a questão : O que é, o que é que existe? torna-se uma questão desprovida de sentido. Em sua opinião, admissíveis seriam apenas questões acerca do que propriamente actua (wirkt), do que acontece, do que conecta, ou, por outras palavras, a questão do "entre". In classical physics, the world is considered as a matter-based reality, the arrangement of whose parts in time is uniquely determined by certain dynamic laws. By contrast, modern quantum physics reveals that matter is not composed of matter, but reality is merely potentiality. The world has a holistic structure, which is based on fundamental relations and not material objects, admitting more open, indeterministic developments. In this more flexible causal framework, inanimate and animate matter are not to be considered as fundamentally (...) different but as different order structures of the same immaterial entity. In a stable configuration, effectively all the uncertainties are statistically averaged out, thus the unique and deterministic behavior of ordinary inanimate matter is exhibited; whereas in the case of statically unstable but dynamically stable configurations, the “lively” features of the underlying quantum structure have a chance to surface to the mesocopic level and to be connected with what we observe as the phenomenon of life. This supposition can be more explicitly treated and clarified by identifying the electric dipole moment of biomolecules as the ordering parameter of the corresponding macroquantum system. This has important consequences for biology and medicine. In particular, it suggests the existence of a quantum-based “software,” essential perhaps for the logistics of biological processes, which are hidden behind the matter/energy-based “hardware” that alone is considered in the conventional approach. In medicine it opens an opportunity to build bridges between conventional medicine based essentially on the classical paradigm, and the various forms of complementary medicine, which have strong affinities with the new features of the modern holistic worldview. Die antiskeptische Strategie soll dadurch zum Erfolg führen, dass die beiden von der Skepsis bedrohten Sachverhalte sich gegenseitig stützen. Gezeigt wird, dass die Aufgabe des Sonderstatus von Personen die Leugnung der Bedeutung von" wahr"impliziert und umgekehrt. Positiv gewendet: Die Bedeutung von" wahr"ist in Beziehung auf Subjektivität (...) zu explizieren, und Subjektivität erschließt sich theoretisch durch die Beziehung auf Wahrheit. Die Vorgehensweise ist im wesentlichen negativ; ihr positiver Aspekt besteht in der systematischen Zuordnung der negativen Ergebnisse. Zu Gegenständen der Kritik werden dabei der Naturalismus in der reduktiven wie der eliminationistischen Variante sowie ontologisierende Ansätze, d. h. Versuche, philosophische Probleme durch das Postulat von Entitäten sui generis zu lösen. In der Ablehnung von Ontologisierungen und im negativen Charakter der philosophischen Tätigkeit ergeben sich Berührungspunkte mit dem späten Wittgenstein. If one takes seriously the idea that a scientific language must be extensional, and accepts Quine’s notion of truth-value-related extensionality, and also recognizes that a scientific language must allow for singular terms that do not refer to existing objects, then there is a problem, since this combination of assumptions must be inconsistent. I will argue for a particular solution to the problem, namely, changing what is meant by the word ‘extensionality’, so that it would not be the truth-value that had (...) to be preserved under the substitution of co-extensional expressions, but the state of affairs that the sentence described. The question is whether or not elementary sentences containing empty singular terms, such as ‘Vulcan rotates’, are extensional in the substitutivity sense. Five conditions are specified under which extensionality in the substitutivity sense of such sentences can be secured. It is demonstrated that such sentences are state-of-affairs-as-extension-related extensional. This implies that such sentences are also truth-value-related extensional in Quine’s sense, but not truth-value-as-extension-related extensional. (shrink)

In German discussions over the last twenty years of the difference between what it is to be a body (in German: Leibsein) and what it is to have a body (Körperhaben), many have been concerned to remind us that we owe this conceptual distinction to the philosophical anthropologist Helmuth Plessner. He introduces the distinction in an essay from 1925—written in collaboration with the Dutch behavioral researcher Frederick Jacob Buytendijk—“Die Deutung des mimischen Ausdrucks. Ein Beitrag zur Lehre vom Bewusstsein des anderen (...) Ichs” (“The Interpretation of Mimetic Expressions: A Contribution to Understanding One’s Consciousness of Other Subjects”). The paper discusses two theories of interdisciplinarity of ethics and economics in order to clarify the relationship. The traditional view of a hierarchical ordering of ethics and economics is rejected, and it is claimed that there are substantial economic contributions to ethical justification.

IntroductionAlthough a few studies suggest that young overweight to obese children and adolescents may have impaired postural control compared to young normal-weight peers, little information exists about how these two groups differ in the quality of the underlying balance strategies employed. Hence, the aim of the present study was a first comprehensive examination of the structural complexity of postural sways in these two cohorts during quiet bilateral standing.MethodsNineteen YO secondary school students were carefully matched to YN controls for age, sex, (...) height, and school. Mediolateral and anteriorposterior acceleration signals were recorded with an inertial measurement unit positioned at the trunk while standing barefoot in two conditions: firm and foam support surface. The magnitude of postural fluctuations was obtained using the root mean square. The temporal structure of the signals was analyzed via sample entropy, largest Lyapunov exponent, and detrended fluctuation analysis algorithm. Reliability was assessed using a test–retest design.ResultsIn both groups, foam standing caused higher postural fluctuations and reduced structural complexity. In comparison to YN, YO exhibited a higher RMSAP. Especially in ML direction, the acceleration signals of the YO had higher repeatability, greater long-range correlations, and lower local stability. However, these observations were largely independent of the task difficulty. Except for α-DFAAP, the IMU approach proved reliable to characterize posture control.DiscussionOur outcomes confirm postural control deficits in YO compared to their YN peers and indicate impaired regulatory mechanisms reflected as rigidity. Such less complex patterns usually reflect diverse pathologies, are detrimental to compensate for internal or external perturbations, and are attributed to lower adaptability and task performance. Without targeted balance stimuli, YO likely end in a lifelong vicious circle of mutually dependent poor balance regulation and low physical activity. (shrink)

The crises demonstrate the degree to which the West is shaped by its forms of competition and the East by its forms of cooperation. In the West, we have become habitualised to American neoliberalism over the last two generations. In the East, varieties of neo-Confucianism and neo-Buddhism have been transformed into national cultures. The way (...) humans understand their position in the world intellectually and react to crises according to corresponding habit makes an effective difference. The present comparison between global East and West makes use of Hannah Arendt’s conception ofpoliticsand theshared worldas well as of Helmuth Plessner’s conception ofmediated immediacyin forms ofmodern biopower.
