Libérer et écologiser les sciences sociales.Jean Foyer - 2011 - Hermès: La Revue Cognition, communication, politique 60 (2):182-187.

Considering the Diverse Views of Ecologisation in the Agrifood Transition: An Analysis Based on Human Relationships with Nature.Danièle Magda, Claire Lamine & Jean-Paul Billaud - 2022 - Environmental Values 31 (6):657-679.
This article aims to characterise the visions of ecologisation found within scientific approaches embraced by different epistemic communities, and which have inspired empirical work and public action on agrifood system transitions. Based on comparative readings of works anchored in our two disciplinary fields (ecology and sociology), we identified six large ensembles of epistemic communities as well as their points of convergence and divergence. We identify six ideotypical visions of ecologisation based on the types of 'relationships to nature' embedded (...)

Concern for wild animal suffering and environmental ethics: What are the limits of the disagreement?Oscar Horta - 2018 - Les Ateliers de l'Éthique / the Ethics Forum 13 (1):85-100.
OSCAR HORTA | : This paper examines the extent of the opposition between environmentalists and those concerned with wild-animal suffering and considers whether there are any points they may agree on. The paper starts by presenting the reasons to conclude that suffering and premature death prevail over positive well-being in nature. It then explains several ways to intervene in order to aid animals and prevent the harms they suffer, and claims that we should support them. In particular, the paper argues (...)

The pervasiveness of the rational-conceptual: an educational-philosophical perspective on nature, world and ‘sustainable development’.Koichiro Misawa - 2021 - Ethics and Education 16 (3):289-306.
ABSTRACT At the heart of our current environmental predicament lies the issue of our relationship with nature. Michael Bonnett’s educational rehabilitation of nature, which might be called a ‘metaphysical’ turn in nature-related issues, brings us back to the core question of educational-philosophical thinking: how we are to understand ourselves and our relation to the world. In this paper, by confronting his environmental philosophy of education with what John McDowell, in his debate with Hubert Dreyfus, terms the ‘pervasiveness thesis’ – that (...)

Humans, Materiality and Society: The Contemporary Sociological Relevance of Helmuth Plessner.Anna Henkel - 2019 - Human Studies 42 (1):123-145.
Plessner’s Stufen des Organischen questions both the conditions of possibility as well as the consequences of a self-understanding of life. Originally written against the background of urbanisation, industrialisation and colonisation, the strength of Plessner’s work lies in his combination of an analyticalphilosophical conceptualisation, the introduction of materiality and the body as well as his historical–ethical dimension. As a re-sult of this combination, Plessner’s approach is well suited to contribute to the current inter-national discourse on the relationship of sociality and materiality. (...)
