Que peuvent bien attendre les psychiatres, les psychotherapeutes, les psychologues, et avant tout leurs patients, de la Daseinsanalyse? On tentera de repondre a cette question en partant ici du trait distinctif qui fonde la singularite de la Daseinsanalyse: inscrire toute reflexion et toute pratique medicale dans le cadre d'une meditation ontologique en direction du mode d'etre de l'homme. En effet, une conviction, issue de l'oeuvre de Heidegger domine la Daseinsanalyse: l'homme n'est pas une chose mais un Dasein, (...) un existant, un etre qui est dans son etre ouverture a l'etre. Qu'il s'agisse de la melancolie, de la manie, des troubles obsessionnels compulsifs, de la depression ou de la schizophrenie, la description de ces pathologies comme leur traitement ne sauraient en effet demeurer les memes selon que l'on considere celui qui en souffre comme un etre neuronal, un compose de forces physicochimiques, une psyche dominee par des conflits inconscients ou comme un Dasein. O presente artigo começa por mostrar até que ponto a influência cultural derivada da publicação, em 1927, de Sein und Zeit de Martin Heidegger contagiou também o campo psicopatológico, tendo sido especialmente Ludwig Binswanger (1881-1966) quem colheu e transferiu estes conteúdos filosóficos para o campo psiquiátrico. A autora salienta que enquanto Heidegger se ocupava com os aspectos ontológicos do ser, Binswanger se interessava particularmente pelos aspectos ônticos, factuais do ser, ou melhor, pela presença humana que se exprime mediante a sua (...) estrutura a priori de ser-no-mundo e de ser-com. O artigo mostra também até que ponto ao homo natura das ciências positivistas e da psicanálise Binswanger contrapoõe o homo existentia, superando dessa forma a dicotomia sujeito-objecto. Finalmente, coincidindo a nossa existência com a nossa possibilidade de ser no mundo, ou seja, de nos exprimirmos no mundo, o artigo mostra ainda até que ponto os conceitos de são e de doente constituem duas categorias que pertencem ao mesmo mundo, ou seja, ao mesmo modo de estar no mundo, pelo que da antropoanálise se pode dizer ela não fazer uma distinção de fundo entre a saúde e a doença. /// The present article seeks to demonstrate to what degree the publication of Heidegger's Sein und Zeit in 1927 had a cultural influence that extended to the field of psychopathology. It was particularly Ludwig Binswanger (1881-1966) who received and then transferred the work's philosophical contents into the domain of psychiatry. The author underscores the fact that, while Heidegger was concerned with the ontological aspects of being, Binswanger focused his interest on the ontical, factual dimension of being, i. e., on the human presence expressed in his a priori structure as being-in-the-world and as being-with. The article also demonstrates the degree to which the homo natura conceived in the positive sciences and psychoanalysis can be countered by Biswanger's concept of homo existentia, that overcomes the subject/object dichotomy. Finally, recognizing the coincidence of our existence with our possibility of being, i. e., of expressing the world, the article endeavors to show how the concepts of healthy and sick constitute categories belonging to the same world. It is thus that anthropoanalysis can be said to make no fundamental distinction between the two aforesaid concepts. (shrink)

Limitless is a movie (released in 2011) as well as a novel (published in 2001) about a tormented author who (plagued by a writer’s block) becomes an early user of an experimental designer drug. The wonder drug makes him highly productive overnight and even allows him to make a fortune on the stock market. At the height of his career, however, the detrimental side-effects become increasingly noticeable. In this article, Limitless is analysed from two perspectives. First of all, building on (...) the views of the French novelist Emile Zola, the novel is seen as the report of a closely monitored experiment. Subsequently, building on the phenomenology of Ludwig Binswanger, I will show how the cognitive enhancement drug not only boosts the protagonist’s information processing capacities, but also modifies his experience of space and time, his sense of spatiality, his way of being-in-the-world. On the basis of these (complementary) analyses I will indicate how genres of the imagination (such as movies and novels) may play a significant role in assessing the societal implications of emerging technological developments such as neuro-enhancement, especially during the preparatory or anticipatory stage. RésuméCet article examine la manière dont Michel Foucault se rapporte à la psychologie et à la psychopathologie phénoménologiques dans les années 1950, à la lumière des nouvelles sources documentaires que nous avons aujourd’hui à notre disposition. Notre contribution se concentre en particulier sur le manuscrit inédit de l’un des cours donnés par Foucault à l’université de Lille entre 1952 et 1954 : le cours sur « Binswanger et la phénoménologie ». L’analyse de ce cours, conçu par Foucault dans le contexte (...) d’une réflexion philosophique sur le problème anthropologique de la psychopathologie, nous permettra enfin de restituer à Foucault la place qui lui revient dans le domaine de la « philosophie de la psychiatrie ». Para isso, num primeiro momento o texto contextualiza essa publicação à luz do depósito, em 2013, de novos materiais de Michel Foucault na Biblioteca Nacional da França. Depois, ele passa à análise dos textos dos anos 1950 e insere o novo texto nos demais debates. Finalmente, o artigo (...) enfoca a questão antropológica em três eixos: as relações antropologia x psicopatologia, o lugar da fenomenologia na argumentação de Foucault e os limites das considerações de Binswanger e da Daseinsanalyse. ] ] ] *** [ [ [ The present work focuses on the relationship between truth and anthropology in the Foucault's first writings from the 1950s, targeting the recent release of the (until now) unpublished writing “Binswanger et l'Analyse Existentielle”. To shed some light on such relationship, firstly the article contextualizes the new book under the recent deposit of several foucauldian writings at Bibliothèque Nationale de France, at last since 2013. Secondly, it contextualizes the place of the new book under the published texts from the 1950s. Finally, the article analyses the book considering the anthropological problem under three main issues: the relationship between anthropology and psychopathology, the place of phenomenology in Foucault's argumentation, and the limits of the Daseinsanalyse and Ludwig Binswanger’s theorisations. El presente artículo asume por tema el fenómeno de la angustia. Tal temática es considerada a partir de la fenomenología existencial del filósofo alemán Martin Heidegger (1889-1976) y de su apropiación por parte del psicoterapeuta suizo Medard Boss (1903-1990), la cual se hizo conocida por la designación: Daseinsanalyse. Tenemos el objetivo de aclarar las diferencias de comprensión que los mismos hacen del fenómeno en cuestión, para tal, determinaremos las diferencias conceptuales existentes en la angustia y, específicamente, presentar los pormenores (...) de las posiciones defendidas por Heidegger y Boss, respectivamente, cuando se trata de abordar clínicamente tal fenómeno. Utilizando del método descriptivo, daremos a estas hipótesis la presentación adecuada y validación en el texto integral del artículo. Las ideas aquí consignadas se justifican por la relevancia que el concepto de angustia tiene en el ámbito de la analítica existencial heideggeriana y por la recurrencia de la angustia, como psicopatología, en la clínica fenomenológico-existencial de Boss. La plupart des études actuelles sur la « psychiatrie phénoménologique » séparent assez nettement les approches historiques, philosophiques et cliniques. Cet article vise à poser la problématique d’une histoire épistémologique qui dégage les enjeux des questions à l’origine du modèle méthodologique que Binswanger élabora pour la psychiatrie dès les premières décennies du XX e siècle. Dans ce but, on a choisi de se concentrer sur un ouvrage : Changements dans la conception et l’interprétation du rêve depuis les Grecs jusqu’au présent (...) (1928). Il offre en effet un panorama du contexte psychiatrique et psychologique dans lequel Binswanger traite de la méthodologie en psychopathologie. Mais il montre aussi le rôle que le questionnement du rêve a joué pour la réception épistémologique de la phénoménologie philosophique par le psychiatre qu’est Binswanger. (shrink)

Binszuanger's Daseinsanalyse is, first and foremost, an attempt to explain the close links that may exist between how to understand, interpret, and experience. To achieve this goal, it constantly evolves through a to and fro movement between two kinds of thought processes, that is, Husserl's and Heidegger's. It sways around the central question of living connections that take place between the experiences within the intimate "stories" of one's life and the very same connections between my own experience and that (...) of the other person. Of course, it runs into the problem of misunderstanding, which is typical of that very process and comes back whenever one is confronted by a theory of perception. The present authors question once again such an ontological primacy with reference to Wilhelm Schapp's philosophy. According to the latter, story and not perception comes first. Things are valid only because they surge within one's story, and it is story that holds person's seat. The person thus becomes described as being entangled amidst stories. The authors show that one can cast a new light on Binswanger's project by following Schapp on a narrative level: Connections living through experiences are connections between stories. The encounter with the psychiatric patient is understood in terms of mutual "entanglement. " Such a point of view leads the authors to analyze existential analysis through the new criteria of a strictly narrative analysis. (shrink)

현대 사회에서 일중독 증세가 있는 사회 구성원들이 많아지고 있다. 이것은 성과주의라는 가치가 시대적인 삶의 흐름이 되어가고 있음을 의미할 수 있다. 인간이 자유롭고 독립적인 주체로 살아가는 데 일은 하나의 중요한 요소이지만, 지나치게 성과주의에 집착하여 일이 자신의 존재를 구속하게 된다면 인간은 자유로운 주체로 살아가기가 힘들 것이다. 마르틴 하이데거(M. Heidegger)는 그의 주저인 『존재와 시간』에서 인간 실존이 ‘비본래성’(Uneigentlichkeit)으로부터 ‘본래성’(Eigentlichkeit)을 찾을 방법을 제시한 바 있다. 누군가가 “무엇을 찾고 있다.”라는 것은 찾고 있는 대상을 잃어버렸다는 것을 의미한다. 즉 본래적 자기를 찾는다는 것은 본래의 자기를 잃어버렸음을 말한다. 이 (...) 논문에서 필자는 일중독을 본래적 자기 존재를 스스로 상실한 채 살아가고 있는 현대인의 비본래적인 모습 중에 하나로 파악할 것이다. 또한 필자는 일중독 증세를 가진 내담자가 처해있는 세계를 분석하고, 철학상담을 통해 내담자가 스스로 본래적 자기를 찾아갈 수 있는지를 살펴보고자 한다. Penser l'homme et la folie : dans ce recueil d'études où s'est condensée, au fil des dernières années, sa réflexion, Henri Maldiney se propose de penser ensemble l'énigme de l'humanité et l'énigme de la " catastrophe " qui survient à certains d'entre nous. Double décentrement de la pensée, qui la met à la fois hors de l'anthropologie, fût-elle philosophique, et de son envers dans les théories psycho-pathologiques. Double décentrement où s'éprouvent donc au mieux la tradition philosophique - et en particulier (...) celle qui est issue de Heidegger - et la tradition de la Daseinsanalyse et de la Schicksalsanalyse, telle qu'elle est représentée par Binswanger, Straus, Minkiwski, Von Weizsäcker et Szondi. Dans une démarche authentiquement phénoménologique, où il s'agit de retourner à la " chose même " de l'humain et de la folie, de penser en va-et-vient de l'énigme à penser à ce qui en a été dit, Henri Maldiney dégage, par sa conception toute nouvelle de la transpossibilité et de la transpassibilité, une " compréhension " globale du phénomène humain qui le rend moins intraitable que par le passé. Le " séisme " de la folie, montre-t-il, vient d'un énigmatique court-circuit de la transpossibilité et de la transpassibilité, qui est seul propre à les mettre véritablement en relief comme la dimension profonde et cachée de notre expérience : celle de l' "événement " ou de l'émergence du nouveau, de la surprise de l'inattendu. La transpassiblité est une " possibilité " qui nous excède, en ce qu'elle fonde toute possibilité pour nous d'exister, parce qu'elle est en deçà de tout projet, transpossiblité de l'accueil - et de l'accueil transpassible -, y compris de l'accueil par nous-mêmes, de nous-mêmes. The Swiss psychiatrist Ludwig Binswanger is best known for his existential analysis (Daseinsanalyse) presented in a series of case studies in the 1940s, but his existential anthropology of mania of the early 1930s has received less attention. He introduced this new existential science as a disciplinary hybrid of existential philosophy and clinical psychiatry, and, in doing so, transformed the genre of narrow medical case study into a broader discourse of philosophical anthropology. The very ambitiousness of his method, however, tended (...) to eclipse the individuality of his manic patient; its delineation of the conditioning structures of manic experience rendered the patient’s life-history and her functional state as secondary to these structures. This paper returns to a seminal case in the historical of phenomenological psychopathology, Ludwig Binswanger’s discussion of “Ellen West A woman with a long history of melancholia and disordered eating, Ellen West was treated at Binswanger’s Bellevue sanatorium in 1921, a two-and-a-half month-long stay that resulted in a diagnosis of schizophrenia and Ellen West’s suicide. Binswanger relied on West’s personal writings and clinical history to develop and apply an original approach to case analysis, Daseinsanalyse or “existential analysis.” This paper (...) takes up this case and Binswanger’s analysis to explore the origins of contemporary phenomenological psychopathology, the recent progress in this field, and areas for continued growth. The paper argues that new approaches to exploring the embedded or situated quality of psychopathology are needed for advancing clinical phenomenology, and that feminist and critical phenomenology are among the disciplines that can provide important methodological and theoretical foundations for this work. Without this, the field risks repeating Binswanger’s original mistakes and viewing psychiatric illness solely as the expression of a disturbed individual. (shrink)

El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo investigar el fundamento existencialista de la introducción escrita por Michel Foucault a “Traum und Existenz” de Ludwing Binswanger. Sostenemos que Foucault, partiendo de la antropología binswangeriana, desarrolla el esbozo de una antropología de la imaginación. Esta antropología se centra en una serie de conceptos: sueño, existencia, libertad, imagen e imaginación. Sin embargo, a diferencia del Daseinsanalyse, Foucault pone el acento en la facticidad y en la expresión histórica de la libertad. En este punto (...) se plantea una diferencia importante entre ambos autores: mientras que Binswanger pone el acento en una noción de individuo que supedita su existencia individual a un ideal de totalidad comunitaria, Foucault destaca la necesidad de dirigir la dimensión fundante de la libertad hacia sus formas de expresión concretas. The discovery of antipsychotics and anti-depressants occurred when psychodynamic and phenomenological–anthropological approaches prevailed in psychiatry. Roland Kuhn personified that time as being one of the founders of Daseinsanalyse and also the discoverer of imipramine. Influenced by Binswanger and Scheler, Kuhn worked with the concept of “vital depressive disposition,” while emphasizing the preeminence of psychopathology over statistic methods. Consequently, he could not be satisfied with what he foresaw as “clouds of a coming disaster”:Since that time, there has been a worldwide (...) use of surveys, whose results are “exactly” tabulated with numbers, statistically evaluated, and represented in tables.... Wie Heidegger studierte Falkenfeld vor dem Ersten Weltkrieg Philosophie in Freiburg. Im Unterschied zu Heidegger war Falkenfeld aktiver Soldat. Er entwickelte eine eigene Philosophie des Krieges, in der er seine Fronterfahrungen auf der Grundlage von Rickerts Neukantianismus und Kierkegaards Existenzphilosophie interpretierte. Seine Theorie weist erstaunliche Gemeinsamkeiten mit einigen Zügen der Daseinsanalyse Heideggers auf. Das macht es wahrscheinlich, dass einige Begriffe der Heideggerschen Daseinsanalyse ihren Ursprung in dieser Interpretation der Fronterfahrung haben.

Ludwig Binswanger has been one of the first psychiatrists who used in his medical approach the Daseinsanalyse of Martin Heidegger in order to understand the mental disorders of his patients. However, as it is well-known, one of the most critical interlocutor of Binswanger was Heidegger himself. Rebuilding the controversial case of Ellen West and the relationship between Heidegger and Binswanger on the ground of analysis of human being, the aim of this paper is to verify if Heidegger’s approach can (...) give to psychoanalysis and psychiatry its most radical re-orientation by providing a new paradigm for understanding human being and the pathologies of existence. However, there is no common understanding of the meaning of religious experience. Mario Fischer analyzes Heidegger's early phenomenology of religious life and its background in contemporaneous theological and philosophical developments. The young Martin Heidegger developed his first autonomous phenomenological approaches by considering how the Christian experience of life is expressed in the letters of the (...) apostle Paul and in Augustine's onfessions These studies led to his later analysis of aseinin eing and Time In conclusion, Fischer examines the significance of Heidegger's understanding of religious experience for current discussions in the philosophy of religion. Mario Fischer untersucht Heideggers fruhe Phanomenologie des religiosen Lebens vor dem Hintergrund der zeitgeschichtlichen theologischen und philosophischen Entwicklungen. Der junge Freiburger Privatdozent Martin Heidegger wollte nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg die Philosophie neu grundlegen und entwickelte seine ersten Ansatze einer eigenstandigen Phanomenologie. Dabei spielte die Auseinandersetzung mit Fragen nach der Bedeutung und Erfassung religioser Erfahrung eine wesentliche Rolle. Zunachst befasste sich Heidegger mit der Struktur religioser Erlebnisse, weitete seinen Blick dann aber auf die Struktur der Lebenserfahrung und ihre religiose Dimension. Dazu untersuchte er, wie sich diese konkret in den Briefen des Apostels Paulus und in den Confessiones Augustins ausdruckt. Spater fuhrten diese Studien zu seiner Daseinsanalyse in Sein und Zeit und stellten die Grundlage seines spateren Gesprachs mit Bultmann dar. Die Darstellung orientiert sich an Heideggers Biographie bis zu seinem Weggang aus Freiburg im Jahre 1923. Bewusst setzt sie nicht erst mit dem Beginn seiner philosophischen Lehrtatigkeit ein, sondern nimmt auch die Einflusse aus Heideggers Kindheit und Jugend sowie aus seiner Studentenzeit mit in den Blick. So entsteht ein vielgestaltiges und spannendes Bild der verschiedenen Geistesstromungen um den Ersten Weltkrieg. Abschliessend fragt Fischer nach der Bedeutung von Heideggers phanomenologischen Studien fur die gegenwartige religionsphilosophische Diskussion um religiose Erfahrung. (shrink)

This book is not addressed to beginning students in philosophy so much as it is addressed to those who, though fairly well-versed in the philosophical tradition, find themselves frankly baffled and brought up short by the writ ings of Martin Heidegger, and who-while recognizing the novelty of the Heideggerean enterprise - may sometimes find themselves wondering if this "thinking of Being" is after all rich enough to deserve still further effort on their part. That at least was my own state (...) of mind after a couple of years spent in studying Heidegger. Then one day, in preparing for a seminar, I suddenly saw, not indeed all of what Heidegger is about, but at least where he stands in terms of previous philosophers, and what is the ground of his thinking. After that, it became possible to assess certain strengths and weaknesses of his thought in terms of his own methodology vis-a-vis those earlier thinkers who, without having dreamed of anything quite like a Daseinsanalyse, had yet recognized in explicit terms the feature of experience on which the identi fication of Sein (and consequently the Daseinsanalyse) depends for its poss ibility. Neste estudo procedemos a uma revisão narrativa da literatura, de modo a mostrar as diferentes etapas da psiquiatria tal como desenvolvida por Ludwig Binswanger, ao mesmo tempo realizamos uma análise crítica dessas etapas. Discorremos sobre os motivos do afastamento desse estudioso das bases biológicas que sustentavam a psiquiatria da época, em direção a uma perspectiva psicanalítica. Nessa etapa, Binswanger defende as bases psíquicas das enfermidades mentais, das quais em breve tempo também se afasta por avaliar que na psicanálise, também, havia (...) uma redução ao psíquico. Esse estudioso passa, imediatamente, para os estudos das bases fenomenológicas com seu mestre Edmund Husserl, acreditando que nessa perspectiva ficaria livre de qualquer redução. Em um breve intervalo de tempo, esse estudioso da psiquiatria passou a estudar a analítica do Dasein com Martin Heidegger, assumindo a Daseinsanalyse nas bases de seus estudos. No entanto, com a crítica de Heidegger à daseinsanálise de Binswanger, este acabou por denominar o seu projeto de psiquiatria como fenomenologia antropológica, interessando-se pelas vivências do espaço e do tempo daqueles que apresentavam enfermidades psíquicas. This essay compares Sartre's existential psychoanalysis with Freud's psychoanalysis and Binswanger's Daseinsanalysis . On the one hand, Sartre's psychoanalysis, despite the pure phenomenological interpretation of the factical self (in the first part of Being and Nothingness ), is ultimately metaphysically founded on the concept of 'human reality' (in the fourth part of the book), so that this psychoanalysis cannot be identified with the way of interpreting existence in the Daseinsanalyse . On the other hand, Sartre's phenomenological interpretation of the (...) factical self implies that Freud's analysis of psychical phenomena is false, because the self 'is strictly to the degree that it signifies' ( Sketch for a Theory of the Emotions ) and is 'coextensive with consciousness' ( Being and Nothingness ). The paper discusses the relationship between time and understanding in Heidegger’s phenomenological-ontological hermeneutics. Even thanks to an innovative concept of understanding as an open and projecting dimension, Heidegger can reach the qualitative, dynamic and differential concept of time, which is the basis of the Daseinsanalyse in Sein und Zeit. Only if comprehension is meant as a primary phenomenon can time be thought as an ecstatic disclosedness, i.e. an original, ontologically inderivative, unprogrammable non-functionalistic and essential temporality, which always involves and (...) concerns us. La plupart des études actuelles sur la « psychiatrie phénoménologique » séparent assez nettement les approches historiques, philosophiques et cliniques. Cet article vise à poser la problématique d’une histoire épistémologique qui dégage les enjeux des questions à l’origine du modèle méthodologique que Binswanger élabora pour la psychiatrie dès les premières décennies du XXe siècle. Dans ce but, on a choisi de se concentrer sur un ouvrage : Changements dans la conception et l’interprétation du rêve depuis les Grecs jusqu’au présent . (...) Il offre en effet un panorama du contexte psychiatrique et psychologique dans lequel Binswanger traite de la méthodologie en psychopathologie. Mais il montre aussi le rôle que le questionnement du rêve a joué pour la réception épistémologique de la phénoménologie philosophique par le psychiatre qu’est Binswanger.For the most part, nowadays studies in the field of « phenomenological psychiatry » draw a sharp distinction between historical, philosophical, and clinical approaches. This paper aims at opening up the field for an epistemological history, which brings out the problems at stake at the origin of the methodological model that Ludwig Binswanger elaborated for psychiatry in the first decades of the 20th century. For this reason we focus on a Binswager’s work of 1928 : The Dream : Changes in its Concept and Interpretation from Greeks to the Present. This work introduces us to the psychiatric and psychological context within which Binswanger dwells upon the problem of methodology in the field of psychopathology. But it also shows us the role that the questioning of dream played for Binswanger’s epistemological reception of philosophical phenomenology. (shrink)
