Abstract

Like other organisms, our physical existence as humans is a natural form of life. But because humans created civilization, we often define ourselves on the metaphysical level. The methods we use to do so are diverse, but two are especially important: According to the ancient Greek tradition, humans can be defined as rational souls, where rational thought is the essence of humanity. According to Confucian tradition, humans are defined on the basis of personal relationships.
