The Meanings and Development of Humanist Manifestos of USA
Abstract
In this paper, 1933, John Dewey and other thirty-four by the New Culture Movement activists signed the first , 1973 by "American Humanist Association" published the second revised , and two in the third ○ ○ Department , based on the content to be analyzed by the clear by the European Renaissance humanism start, after the Enlightenment fermentation, and influence development in the United States. Position from the Scholastic philosophy of humanism in a rational anti-religious, atheist views, on a rational point of view of life and faith and reason further thought in response to of concept, and pointed out that "universal humanism" spirit , will be may develop to the final. This paper is based on as well as analyzing the contents of Humanist Manifesto Ⅰ , Humanist Manifesto Ⅱ , and Humanist Manifesto Ⅲ declared in 2003 so as to understand the development and influence of humanism-initiated by Renaissance and encouraged through the Enlightenment-in USA From the standpoint of scholasticism, we take the views of rational counter-religion and atheism and respond to the ideas of the Humanist Manifestos in terms of the perspective of life and the further reflection on reason and religion. Besides, we are also going to point out that the spirit of "universal humanism" is the final goal of the development of "Humanist Manifestos."
