This article discusses two alternative concepts of the philosophy of mathematics in ancient philosophy, associated with Plato and Aristotle. The dominant theme in Plato ontological understanding of the eternal nature of mathematical objects is rejected by Aristotle in favor of epistemological procedures in the practice of geometric mathematical proof.
