Freedom and Communication
Abstract
The award of the Mittner Prize to Elena Esposito gives an occasion to reflect about the meaning and the foundations of communication within the current culture and society. In a perspective in which the individual is deprived of his own value and forgetful of his historicity, communication becomes propaganda, that is, an instrument of falsification and subservience. For this reason, a thought which has to recover the rationality of communication rediscovering its rationality becomes necessary, with the awareness that this rationality – given the plurality and the uncertainty of reality – can be found only in the act of giving meaning, which the individual, as a moral and historical being, has to take charge of
