Abstract

The paper reflects Fritz Haber's part in the negotiations on the building of vast saltpeter and ammonia plants in the first half of World War I. His activities in German war economy led to two important consequences: Firstly, he helped to solve the German ammunition crisis so that the Empire was able to continue its warfare for years. Secondly, he shared a big part in the making of a completely new German nitrogen industry.
