Abstract

Jan Patočka is presently considered to be the greatest Czech philosopher of 20th century. His philosophical thinking is appreciated even abroad. In Patočka’s later philosophy the concept of Europe plays an important role. This concept is inextricably linked to the a Greek idea of care for the soul and with the development of history itself. However, throughout history, according to Patočka, the idea of the care for the soul in Europe has been gradually dissapearing. Europe in the original old sense ceases to exist and its place is overtaken by a new Post-European period. This concept has similarity to the current concept of globalization. The new post-european period inherits after the demise of Europe it’s positive elements, but also mainly the contemporary problems, with which the world will have to struggle.
