Abstract

The aim of this study is to present often paradoxical and contradictory ways to deal with the phenomenon of disembodiment in contemporary virtual art. The various interpretations of this phenomenon will be analyzed on selected examples from light and laser art; work of art using interactive and immersive virtual reality; and trans- and posthumanistic tendencies in virtual art. The analysis of selected examples deals with three essential aspects. Firstly, the selected work of art will be analyzed through their historical roots; secondly, in terms of form, which is either itself disembodied, or is used to achieve a disembodied effect; and thirdly, in the end will be discussed perception of these works by viewers.
