Abstract

The theme of the paper is the phenomenon which Popper labelled `Oedipus effect', and its implications for the anlytical-positivist epistemology, especially for the Principle of the Unity of Science. As far as Popper is concerned, it is claimed that he was unsuccessful in his attempt to overcome the inconsistencies generated in his work by the acknowledgement of the possibility of the Oedipus effect in the human sciences.O tópico do trabalho é o fenômeno denominado por Popper "efeito Édipo", e suas implicações para a epistemologia analítico-positivista, em particular para o Princípio de Unidade da Ciência. Com referência a Popper, a tese defendida é a de que ele não teve sucesso na tentativa de resolver as inconsistências geradas em sua obra pelo reconhecimento da possibilidade do "efeito Édipo" nas ciências humanas.
