Abstract

This essay intends to reassess the complex relationship between Michel Foucault’s thought and psychoanalysis from the point of view of his late refl ections on the subject and the cultures of subjectivity. In general terms, this renewed dialogue only seems to be fruitful if, on the one hand, Foucault’s late treatment of the subject and his concept of care of the self are not just interpreted as a mere return to the subject, but as an ethic reformulation of the very concept of the subject, and if, on the other hand, psychoanalysis is not approached from a strictly theoretical point of view, but from the proper fi eld of psychotherapeutic practice and experience
