Abstract
We should promote, I argue, a willingness to recognize that our individual interests are at times in conflict with our communal interests and that negotiating between them is not an easy task. I suggest, moreover, that citizens that are taught to care about their neighbors will tend to promote policies that advance inclusivity. On the other hand, citizens that are raised in a disconnected manner will tend to advance their own interests to the detriment of others. Maximizing individual interests does not necessarily imply the maximization of our collective interests. We should as a consequence, promote an anti-liberal democratic project that forces people to reflect on their situation as citizens that care, reason, and are willing to recognize that they are not alone in the world
