Henri Lefebvre's 'Critique of Everyday Life' and the Secularization in the Modern Art

Abstract

The progress of modern Western culture can be said in criticism of the traditional culture carried out under. Therefore, as the rational foundation of traditional culture has become the object of criticism of modern Western culture, from traditional to modern Western development process, the object of criticism begins with the "rational criticism" to "cultural criticism" , the formation of Cassirer so-called "extended epistemology" , all philosophy, literature, art, history, social subjects are also concerned about the "world" , "life" Calvary different levels. The face of Western capitalist development under modern daily life, Lefebvre the use of Hegel , since Marx "alienation" , the concept of the development of capitalism daily life and criticize it, and then analyzes the spirit of facing the daily life of poverty, and that "art to everyday life" and other slogans for the "cultural revolution." In the culture towards a comprehensive "daily life" to the same time, Western modern art to the same criticism of the traditional arts and subversion. This article is trying to shift from the historical background of Western culture starting, Lefebvre discusses the use of "alienation" as the consumption of modern capitalism, commercialization of everyday life, critical theoretical basis, and thus from the sanctity of traditional Western art to the secular nature of modern art turned to look at the aesthetic sense of art of modern Western culture is reflected in the daily life of the modern consciousness. The evolution of western modern culture has been progressing based on its reaction toward the traditional culture. In other words, the rationale that supports the traditional culture has also become the target aimed by the criticism of the western modern culture. During the transition, the so -called "Expanded Cognition" has turned "the critique of reason" into "the critique of culture". Thus, any research subjects related to philosophical, literal, artistic, and social concerns has been changed into discussions on several of subject matters related to concepts of "world" and "daily lives." Henri Lefebvre applied the concept of "alienation" derived from Hegel and Marx to launch a series of attack on the daily lives under the threat of capitalism development, analyzed the poverty of spiritual lives and raised the banner of "Let everyday life become a work of art!" to start a "cultural revolution." At the time while the culture was beginning to lean closely toward "daily lives", western modern art also began its rebellious campaign against the content traditional art.
