Abstract

A series of 13 essays engage different aspects of Richard Ullmann's work on U.S. foreign and security policy over the years he was teaching at Princeton and Oxford, as well as the time he served in the U.S. government. Presented by Lake (diplomacy, Georgetown U.) and Ochmanek (the RAND corporation), the essays sometimes directly address the work of Ullmann, but more often look at contemporary issues of foreign policy from the lens of the intellectual school that he established. After a appreciation of Ullmann's life and work, essays treat such topics as transatlantic relations after the Cold War, isolationism in U.S. foreign policy, "humanitarian" interventions, and polarization in policy processes. c.
