Abstract

In the customary notion of arithmetic time does not play a central role. Numbers and formal structures seem to be beyond the world of change. But from an epistemological point of view there are important approaches to the constitution of arithmetic, which include time on a fundamental level. The Kantian traditions as well as Brouwer's intuitionism comprise time within their foundational network. Here we encounter important consequences in regard to the scope of admissible numbers and concerning the application of mathematics to the empirical world. German Traditionell gilt das Reich der Zahlen und der abstrakten Strukturen als ein Gebiet, in dem die Zeitabhängigkeit der Gegenstände keine Rolle spielt. Es zeigt sich aber auf der erkenntnistheoretischen Ebene, daß bei einigen Grundlagenkonzepten der Mathematik die Zeitlichkeit sehr wohl in die Konstitution der formalen Objekte einbezogen wird. In der kantischen und dann später in der intuitionistischen Grundlegung der Mathematik wird durchaus von einer Zeitanschauung Gebrauch gemacht. Diese Einbeziehung der Zeit besitzt Weiterungen, sowohl für die Eingrenzung der Zahlbereiche als auch für das Anwendungsproblem auf die empirische Welt
