Abstract

Gender equality has been seen as an important characterization of a civilized society, then it must first face the challenge of gender differences. The so-called gender equality, to address differences through, or preempt the difference can only justification? In other words, ignoring gender differences, and giving the form of equal treatment, reflects the spirit of equality, or anti-back? In feminism, the so-called "equality and difference" of the debate, equality feminism claimed that only through men and women as equal in order to equal, to get rid of women's subordination; and difference feminists is that there are differences between men and women born that we should be on the basis of this difference, to actively seek gender equality conditions. In the "subordination of women," a book, John Stuart Mill to a full equality of men and women succumb to replace the original relationship. However, equally open to the public domain alone, can really fully reflect the true meaning of gender equality it? This paper intends to explore this as a starting point to view the possibility of this issue. The gender equality has become a mark of civilized society, but it has to face the challenge of gender difference. What we called "gender equality" is to be able to look difference in the face or get rid of difference altogether? In another words, to ignore the difference between men and women, and treat them in a formal equality, is to incarnate the spirit of equality or the contrary? In Feminism, there is a debate of "equality vs. difference", the equality feminists declare that the only way to practice gender equality and the subjection of women is to treat women as men; but the difference feminists are in the contrary, they believe that we were born different, so the possibility of gender equality should base on the difference, and find out the condition to achieve gender equality. In The Subjection of Women, Mill replaced the subordination by a perfect principle of equality. But is it the real meaning of gender equality by the opening of public affairs? This question is the starting point of this research
