Abstract

The notion of infinity is presented in Nietzsche closely with the notion of time and in the context of attempt to construct a cosmology linked to his hypothesis of the eternal recurrence. A circular conception of time does not fit in this cosmology. For Nietzsche the time is an infinite series of identical cyclical periods. Therefore, despite a widespread interpretation, we must conclude that the Nietzschean hypothesis of eternal recurrence is inconsistent with a circular conception of time.
