Abstract

A review of historiographic theory from the Enlightenment to the 19th century using M.M Bakhtin's theory of novelistic discourse to explore how histographic models are incorporated in the works of James Fenimore Cooper, William Gilmore Simms, Lydia Maria Child and Nathaniel Hawthorne.
