Abstract

Is it possible to elucidate the meaning of history? Such is the question raised by the philosophy of history. This article studies the position that the German theologian Troeltsch has taken particularly in his last book, the Der Historismus. It intends both to be an introduction to that great work and to show how the philosophy of history is still relevant in our age.
