Abstract

This essay wants to analyze the concept of institution in the work of Claude Lefort. This term runs the entire arc of the philosopher’s reflection and marks its phases: from the first interventions in the Fifties until the most recent theory of democracy and human rights. The use of this concept by Lefort clarifies the meaning of its translation as an attempt to apply the Merleau-Ponty’s ontology to analyze social dimension. The first part of the intervention is dedicated to the analysis of the words Stiftung and institution from Husserl to Merleau-Ponty.
