Abstract

Searches for the man Blaise who has been shadowed into near invisibility by the hero Pascal, the 17th-century French scientist who underwent a conversion in midlife and became saintly. Knits the two halves of his life together by examining his upbringing and family relationships, finding in his love for God a substitute or at least compensation for the loss of his parents.
