Abstract
A new counseling model is established based on Confucianism and Taoism. This model considers influences of Chinese culture and philosophy on Chinese clients in Taiwan. First, concepts of culture, counseling and human values are discussed in terms of definitions and functions. Second, the effects of human values on the counseling process are examined regarding the interaction and influences of counselor values and client values. Third, Confucianism and Taoism are introduced followed by a discussion on Chinese characteristics and personality. Finally, a new counseling model based on Chinese philosophy and culture is developed in order to provide Chinese clients in Taiwan a better possibility for a positive counseling experience
