Abstract

Cet article étudie, à partir d’archives suédoises, les raisons du retard pris par la Semaine de Prière pour l’Unité dans un pays comptant parmi les pionniers de l’œcuménisme. Le premier obstacle fut un réflexe de méfiance envers l’origine « romaine » de ladite Semaine, initiative de l’abbé Paul Couturier importée par la minorité Haute Église. À partir des années 50, la concurrence avec la Semaine de l’Alliance évangélique, indispensable à l’unité des Églises Libres en voie d’intégration à l’œcuménisme national, entrava l’expansion de la Semaine œcuménique. Based on Swedish records, this study investigates the reasons why the Week of Prayer for Unity has been so delayed in a country which has been a pioneer of the ecumenical movement. The main reason was the suspicion about the « Roman » origins of this Week of Prayer, initiated by father Paul Couturier and imported by the High Church minority. From the fifties, the competition with the Week of Prayer of the Evangelical Alliance, essential for the unity of the Free Churches on their way to national ecumenical integration, hindered the spreading of the ecumenical Week
