Abstract

I filosofi illuministi concepivano il progresso come la prova della naturale per­fettibilità umana. Nel secolo xix questa immagine del futuro fu rove­scia­ta da mutamenti epistemologici e imprevedibili innovazioni tecniche, che posero fine a un’idea che aveva funzionato come principio con­ser­va­to­re. A partire da Freud e Lévi-Strauss, il principio dell’entropia formulato da Car­not diventa il nuovo criterio di giudizio della storia.The philosophers of enlightenment conceived progress as evidence of man­kind’s natural perfectibility. In the 19th century this image of future was tur­ni­shed by epistemological changes and technical surprises. They break up an idea that has acted as a principle of preserving values.
