Abstract

First, what you will not find in this book: a chronology of Deleuze’s life or work, or a glossary of key terms. In distinction to other recent introductions, May does not attempt an overview of Deleuze’s work or its defining concepts. Instead, May attempts to situate Deleuze’s work vis-à-vis the question of how one might live. There is only a slight difference in this formulation from the classical philosophical question—how one should live—but it is in this difference that May locates Deleuze’s specific contribution. By focusing on this question, which is inarguably the driving force of Deleuze’s thought, May is able to illuminate some of the most complex and obscure aspects of Deleuze’s work.
