Abstract
This chapter explores the interconnection between human rights theory and practice and global media ethics, arguing for the rehumanizing of journalism and journalism ethics in this era of rapid change and automation. Reviewing the opportunities and challenges facing journalism as it integrates artificial intelligence into all facets of media production, the chapter outlines an opt-in media credibility system, which it argues goes some way toward rebuilding trust in journalism, rehumanizing journalism, and providing a global framework for media ethics. This system, which overlays the current system of media regulation, provides a flexible framework for reviewing journalistic performance that can be adapted to different contexts and changing conditions. It does this by outlining a universal set of journalistic commitments and a process of user feedback that will help monitor the diversity and number of problems journalism is encountering.
