Ethical dilemmas faced by frontline support nurses fighting COVID-19.Xinyi Liu, Yingying Xu, Yuanyuan Chen, Chen Chen, Qiwei Wu, Huiwen Xu, Pingting Zhu & Ericka Waidley - 2022 - Nursing Ethics 29 (1):7-18.
Background: In 2019, an outbreak of COVID-19 broke out in Hubei, China. Medical workers from all over the country rushed to Hubei and participated in the treatment and care of COVID-19 patients. These nurses, dedicated to their professional practice, volunteered to provide compassion and expert clinical care during the pandemic. As with other acts of heroism, the ethical dilemmas associated with working on the front line must be considered for future practice. Purpose: To explore the ethical dilemmas of frontline nurses (...)

Social Norms and CSR Performance.Steven F. Cahan, Chen Chen & Li Chen - 2017 - Journal of Business Ethics 145 (3):493-508.
Some institutional investors are exposed to social norms and public scrutiny. Prior research indicates that these norm-constrained institutions engage in negative screening and invest less in firms operating in ‘sin’ industries. We examine whether social norms also motivate these institutions to engage in positive screening—where they invest more in firms with better corporate social responsibility performance—and CSR-related activism—where they promote improvements in the CSR of existing investees. We find that firms with superior CSR performance have greater ownership by norm-constrained institutions, (...)

Knowledge Mapping of Enterprise Network Research in China: A Visual Analysis Using CiteSpace.Wancheng Yang, Shaofeng Wang, Chen Chen, Ho Hon Leung, Qi Zeng & Xin Su - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
Enterprise Network has increasingly gained popularity in academia. Over the past few decades, a substantial amount of EN studies have been published in China. Drawing upon a sample of 603 papers retrieved from the Chinese Social Sciences Citation Index database between 1998 and 2020, this study aims to delve into the status quo, knowledge base, research focus, and evolutionary trends of EN research in China. A multifaceted bibliometric analysis was performed using CiteSpace. The findings mainly indicate that the research on (...)

The Relationship Between Pre-existing Coronary Heart Disease and Cognitive Impairment Is Partly Explained by Reduced Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction in the Subjects Without Clinical Heart Failure: A Cross-Sectional Study.Suhang Shang, Ziyu Liu, Jinying Gao, Jin Wang, Wenhui Lu, Yulang Fei, Binyan Zhang, Baibing Mi, Pei Li, Louyan Ma, Yu Jiang, Chen Chen, Liangjun Dang, Jie Liu & Qiumin Qu - 2022 - Frontiers in Human Neuroscience 16.
BackgroundCoronary heart disease is closely associated with cognitive impairment, especially in severe cases of heart failure. However, it is unclear whether cardiac systolic function plays a role in the relationship between pre-existing CHD and cognitive impairment in subjects without clinical heart failure.MethodsIn total, 208 subjects from the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University were recruited from June 2014 to January 2015, and were divided into CHD and non-CHD groups according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The global cognitive function (...)

Factors Affecting Online Chinese as a Foreign Language Learning Stickiness: A Study on International Students in China.Chen Chen - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 12.
This study explored international students’ online Chinese as a foreign language learning stickiness in a Chinese university context. A new theoretical model was designed and verified to serve the mixed-method investigation. Participants were a group of 194 international students learning CFL online in a Chinese university. Data were collected through an online questionnaire for all the students and semi-structural individual interviews with eight volunteer participants. The structural equation modeling was conducted to analyze the collected quantitative data, and content analysis was (...)

Psychological Abuse and Social Support in Chinese Adolescents: The Mediating Effect of Self-Esteem.Chen Chen, Shengkai Ji & Juan Jiang - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
Although previous studies have explored relationships between psychological abuse and social support, the pathways from psychological abuse to social support are still unclear, particularly in Chinese adolescents. This cross-sectional study attempts to delineate the prevalence of psychological abuse and explore the relationships between psychological abuse, social support, and self-esteem under the Chinese cultural context. Data were obtained from 417 Chinese adolescents aged 15–18 years old. All of them completed the Child Psychological Abuse and Neglect Scale, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, and Multidimensional (...)

Evolution of a Technology Standard Alliance Based on an Echo Model Developed through Complex Adaptive System Theory.Hong Jiang, Chen Chen, Shukuan Zhao & Yuhao Wu - 2020 - Complexity 2020:1-15.
The evolution of the technology standard alliance is examined using complex adaptive system theory. Taking TSA as a dynamic CAS, an echo model is constructed to depict the mechanism of its evolution, and a model is simulated on the NetLogo platform. The echo model includes a basic model, an extended model, and a three-layer echo model. The adhesive aggregation of agents is explained, and the three evolutionary stages of agents’ entry, migration, and exit are analyzed. Moreover, the adaptability of agents (...)

Executive poverty experience and innovation performance: A study of moderating effects and influencing mechanism.Ximeng Jia, Tao Wang & Chen Chen - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
This paper analyzes the impact mechanism of executive poverty experience on innovation performance from the two logics of “innate endowment” and “endogenous power.” It then explores the moderating role of executive characteristics, firm nature, and market competition from the perspective of heterogeneity, and finally proves the influence mechanism. Using the data of Chinese A-share listed companies from 2012 to 2020, the empirical results show that executives’ poverty experience improves corporate innovation performance. Further studies find that female executives with poverty experience (...)

First language translation involvement in second language word processing.Tao Zeng, Chen Chen & Jiashu Guo - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
Studies on bilingual word processing have demonstrated that the two languages in a mental lexicon can be parallelly activated. However, it is under discussion whether the activated, non-target language gets involved in the target language. The present study aimed to investigate the role of the first language translation in the second language word processing. The tasks of semantic relatedness judgment and lexical decision were both adopted, to explore the relation of the possible L1 involvement and the task demand. Besides, bilinguals (...)

Associations of the Disrupted Functional Brain Network and Cognitive Function in End-Stage Renal Disease Patients on Maintenance Hemodialysis: A Graph Theory-Based Study of Resting-State Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging.Die Zhang, Yingying Chen, Hua Wu, Lin Lin, Qing Xie, Chen Chen, Li Jing & Jianlin Wu - 2021 - Frontiers in Human Neuroscience 15.
Objective: Cognitive impairment is a common neurological complication in patients with end-stage renal disease undergoing maintenance hemodialysis. Brain network analysis based on graph theory is a promising tool for studying CI. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to analyze the changes of functional brain networks in patients on MHD with and without CI by using graph theory and further explore the underlying neuropathological mechanism of CI in these patients. Methods: A total of 39 patients on MHD and 25 healthy controls (...)
