Religious Commitment in Iran: Correlates and Factors of Quest and Extrinsic Religious Orientations. Watson, Nima Ghorbani & Vahideh Saleh Mirhasani - 2007 - Archive for the Psychology of Religion 29 (1):245-258.
Iranians responded to Quest and Extrinsic Religious Orientation Scales in order to assess their validity and factor structure within a Muslim context. A sample of 251 Iranian university students received Persian versions of these instruments along with Intrinsic Religious Orientation, Interpersonal Reactivity, Constructive inking, Need for Cognition, and Openness to Experience Scales. Analysis of these data revealed that the Quest Scale contained four factors and validly measured Iranian religious commitments. Extrinsic and Intrinsic Religious Orientation Scales also clarified the psychological implications (...)

Religious fundamentalism in Iran: Religious and psychological adjustment within a Muslim cultural context.Nima Ghorbani, Zhuo Job Chen, Fatemeh Rabiee & P. J. Watson - 2019 - Archive for the Psychology of Religion 41 (2):73-88.
This first analysis of the Religious Fundamentalism Scale in Iran further examined findings that conservative religious commitments have positive adjustment implications outside the West. Religious Fundamentalism in a sample of 385 Iranian university students displayed direct relationships with Muslim religiosity and spirituality and correlated positively with the Transcendence and negatively with the Symbolism Post-Critical Beliefs factors. Religious Fundamentalism, and conservative religiosity more generally, predicted better mental health in relationship with variables related to self-regulation, narcissism, and splitting. PCB factors defined a (...)

Religious Schema within a Muslim Ideological Surround.Nima Ghorbani, P. J. Watson, Mahmood Amirbeigi & Zhuo Job Chen - 2016 - Archive for the Psychology of Religion 38 (3):253-277.
With Religious Schema Scales in the West, Truth of Texts and Teachings correlates negatively with the commitment to interreligious dialogue recorded by Xenosophia. This measure of fundamentalism also predicts problematic religious and psychosocial functioning. The present project examined Religious Schema Scales in university students and Islamic seminarians in the Muslim cultural context of Iran. Truth of Texts and Teachings correlated positively rather than negatively with Xenosophia and predicted religious and psychological adjustment. The adaptive implications of Truth of Texts and Teachings (...)

Model of Muslim Religious Spirituality: Impact of Muslim Experiential Religiousness on Religious Orientations and Psychological Adjustment among Iranian Muslims.Nima Ghorbani, P. J. Watson, Hamid Reza Gharibi & Zhuo Job Chen - 2018 - Archive for the Psychology of Religion 40 (2-3):117-140.
Previous research indicates that spirituality expressed in tradition-specific terms may initiate, invigorate, and integrate Muslim religious commitments, suggesting a 3-I Model of Religious Spirituality. In a test of this model, Islamic seminarians, university students, and office workers in Iran responded to Muslim Experiential Religiousness, Religious Orientation, and mental health scales. The tradition- specific spirituality of MER displayed correlation, moderation, and mediation results with Intrinsic and Extrinsic Personal Religious Orientations that pointed toward initiation, invigoration, and integration effects, respectively. MER also clarified (...)

Mysticism and Self-Determination in Iran: Multidimensional Complexity of Relationships with Basic Need Satisfaction and Mindfulness.Nima Ghorbani & P. J. Watson - 2009 - Archive for the Psychology of Religion 31 (1):75-90.
In this study, the self-reported mystical experience of Muslims was correlated with constructs relevant to positive psychology. Iranian university students responded to the Extrovertive, Introvertive, and Religious Interpretation factors of the Mysticism Scale; to the Basic Need Satisfaction and Mindfulness measures associated with Self-Determination Theory; and to instruments recording Attributional Complexity, Obsessiveness, and Quest religiosity. Religious Interpretation and Extrovertive factors correlated positively whereas the Introvertive factor correlated negatively with the Self-Determination and adaptive functioning that are emphases of positive psychology. Research (...)

Analyzing the Spirituality of Muslim Experiential Religiousness: Relationships with Psychological Measures of Islamic Religiousness in Iran.Zhuo Chen, P. J. Watson, Shiva Geranmayepour & Nima Ghorbani - 2013 - Archive for the Psychology of Religion 35 (2):233-258.
This investigation analyzed Islamic spirituality as measured by a Muslim Experiential Religiousness Scale. Iranian university and seminary students responded to this instrument along with the Psychological Measure of Islamic Religiousness and Perceived Stress and Self-Esteem scales. Muslim Experiential Religiousness correlated predictably with all PMIR sub-scales, Perceived Stress, and Self-Esteem, and mediated almost all relationships of the PMIR Islamic Beliefs subscale with religious functioning. When evaluated by participants, Muslim Experiential Religiousness items proved to be “rational” relative to their Muslim religious ideals. (...)

Dialogical Validity of Religious Measures in Iran: Relationships with Integrative Self-Knowledge and Self-Control of the “Perfect Man”.Zahra Rezazadeh, P. J. Watson, Christopher J. L. Cunningham & Nima Ghorbani - 2011 - Archive for the Psychology of Religion 33 (1):93-113.
According to the ideological surround model of research, a more “objective” psychology of religion requires efforts to bring etic social scientific and emic religious perspectives into formal dialog. This study of 245 Iranian university students illustrated how the dialogical validity of widely used etic measures of religion can be assessed by examining an emic religious perspective on psychology. Integrative Self-Knowledge and Self-Control Scales recorded two aspects of the “Perfect Man” as described by the Iranian Muslim philosopher Mortazā Motahharī. Use of (...)

  10. Very True Operators on Pre-semi-Nelson Algebras.Shokoofeh Ghorbani - forthcoming - Studia Logica:1-26.
In this paper, we use the concept of very true operator to pre-semi-Nelson algebras and investigate the properties of very true pre-semi-Nelson algebras. We study the very true N-deductive systems and use them to establish the uniform structure on very true pre-semi-Nelson algebras. We obtain some properties of this topology. Finally, the corresponding logic very true semi-intuitionistic logic with strong negation is constructed and algebraizable of this logic is proved based on very true semi-Nelson algebras.

Robust H ∞ Control of DC Motor in the Presence of Input Delay and Disturbance by the Predictor-Based Method.Nima Maleki & Elahe Moradi - 2022 - Complexity 2022:1-10.
In this study, the speed control of a DC motor with input delay and external disturbance is investigated. A delay-dependent memory state feedback robust predictor-based H ∞ controller that formerly has presented is utilized. Sufficient LMIs conditions provide the stabilizing gain of the predictor-based controller. The first-order model of a DC motor has been studied previously using PID and STA methods. However, in this paper, the delay-dependent robust H ∞ controller is used on both the first and second orders of (...)

The co-evolution of cooperation and communication: Alternative accounts.Nima Mussavifard & Gergely Csibra - 2023 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 46:e11.
We challenge the proposal that partner-choice ecology explains the evolutionary emergence of ostensive communication in humans. The good fit between these domains might be because of the opposite relation (ostensive communication promotes the evolution of cooperation) or because of the dependence of both these human-specific traits on a more ancient contributor to human cognitive evolution: the use of technology.

    Metarepresenting in communication.Nima Mussavifard - 2023 - Synthese 202 (5):1-31.
The standard cognitive explanation for the emergence of human communication is that it rests largely on the expression and attribution of communicative intentions which are, in turn, enabled by complex metarepresentations of mental states. This complexity is at odds with the limited metapsychological abilities of infants. But mentalistic metarepresentations are neither necessary nor sufficient in explaining communication. Coded ostensive signals (e.g., eye contact) and established channels (e.g., speech) allow that communicative episodes be identified through decoding rather than metarepresentational inferences. Thus, (...)

When the law makes doors slightly open: ethical dilemmas among abortion service providers in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.Emily McLean, Dawit Nima Desalegn, Astrid Blystad & Ingrid Miljeteig - 2019 - BMC Medical Ethics 20 (1):1-10.
In 2005, Ethiopia changed its abortion law to curb its high maternal mortality. This has led to a considerable reduction in deaths from unsafe abortions. Abortion is now legal if the woman’s pregnancy is a result of rape or incest, if her health is endangered, if the fetus has a serious deformity, if she suffers from a physical or mental deficiency, or if she is under 18 years of age. The word of the woman, if in compliance with the law, (...)

    Equality Logic.Shokoofeh Ghorbani - 2020 - Bulletin of the Section of Logic 49 (3):291-324.
In this paper, we introduce and study a corresponding logic to equality-algebras and obtain some basic properties of this logic. We prove the soundness and completeness of this logic based on equality-algebras and local deduction theorem. We show that this logic is regularly algebraizable with respect to the variety of equality∆-algebras but it is not Fregean. Then we introduce the concept of equality∆-algebras and investigate some related properties. Also, we study ∆-deductive systems of equality∆-algebras. In particular, we prove that every (...)

Friend Recommender System for Social Networks Based on Stacking Technique and Evolutionary Algorithm.Aida Ghorbani, Amir Daneshvar, Ladan Riazi & Reza Radfar - 2022 - Complexity 2022:1-11.
In recent years, social networks have made significant progress and the number of people who use them to communicate is increasing day by day. The vast amount of information available on social networks has led to the importance of using friend recommender systems to discover knowledge about future communications. It is challenging to choose the best machine learning approach to address the recommender system issue since there are several strategies with various benefits and drawbacks. In light of this, a solution (...)

On the category of hyper MV‐algebras.Shokoofeh Ghorbani, Esfandiar Eslami & Abbas Hasankhani - 2009 - Mathematical Logic Quarterly 55 (1):21-30.
In this paper we study the category of hyper MV-algebras and we prove that it has a terminal object and a coequalizer. We show that Jia's construction can be modified to provide a free hyper MV-algebra by a set. We use this to show that in the category of hyper MV-algebras the monomorphisms are exactly the one-to-one homomorphisms.

We use the left self‐distributive axiom to introduce and study a special class of weak Heyting algebras, called self‐distributive weak Heyting algebras (SDWH‐algebras). We present some useful properties of SDWH‐algebras and obtain some equivalent conditions of them. A characteristic of SDWH‐algebras of orders 3 and 4 is given. Finally, we study the relation between the variety of SDWH‐algebras and some of the known subvarieties of weak Heyting algebras such as the variety of Heyting algebras, the variety of basic algebras, the (...)

Research has paid scant attention to reparative behavior to compensate for unintended wrongdoing or to the role of emotions in doing the right thing. We propose a new approach to investigating reparative behavior by looking at moral emotions and psychological proximity. In this study, we compare the effects of moral emotions (guilt and shame) on the level of compensation for financial harm. We also investigate the role of transgressors’ perceived psychological proximity to the victims of wrongdoing. Our hypotheses were tested (...)

Good Things for Those Who Wait: Predictive Modeling Highlights Importance of Delay Discounting for Income Attainment.William H. Hampton, Nima Asadi & Ingrid R. Olson - 2018 - Frontiers in Psychology 9:359023.
Income is a primary determinant of social mobility, career progression, and personal happiness. It has been shown to vary with demographic variables like age and education, with more oblique variables such as height, and with behaviors such as delay discounting, i.e., the propensity to devalue future rewards. However, the relative contribution of each these salary-linked variables to income is not known. Further, much of past research has often been underpowered, drawn from populations of convenience, and produced findings that have not (...)
