    Aristotle and Mathematics. [REVIEW]Malcolm Wilson - 1996 - Review of Metaphysics 50 (1):149-151.
According to Cleary, Aristotle's theory of mathematics is a product of his general philosophical method, which begins with the opinions of his predecessors, articulates their problems, and proposes solutions. Since his predecessors, and especially Plato, were interested in the role of mathematics in cosmology, Aristotle's solution must provide answers to these same questions. Cleary studies Aristotle's reversal of the platonic primacy of mathematics over physics and considers its implications for his ontology and metaphysics.

Wittgenstein on the Arbitrariness of Grammar.Michael N. Forster - 2004 - Princeton, NJ, USA: Princeton University Press.
What is the nature of a conceptual scheme? Are there alternative conceptual schemes? If so, are some more justifiable or correct than others? The later Wittgenstein already addresses these fundamental philosophical questions under the general rubric of "grammar" and the question of its "arbitrariness"--and does so with great subtlety. This book explores Wittgenstein's views on these questions. Part I interprets his conception of grammar as a generalized version of Kant's transcendental idealist solution to a puzzle about necessity. It also seeks (...)

    Internal and External Logic.V. A. Smirnov - 1988 - Bulletin of the Section of Logic 17 (3/4):170-181.
In an essential way I make use of Frege’s and Vasilev’s ideas. N. A. Vasilev distinguished two levels in a logic. The abstract logic depends on gnoeologic assumptions while the empirical part of logic depends on ontological ones. Vasilev did not change the external logic but he did change the internal one. His system can be viewed as a non-standard syllogistics based on classical propositional logic . Vasilev’s ideas become plain if we discern cleary acts of predication and acts (...)

    De Kant a Peirce, cien años después: a través de K.O. Apel.Carlos Ortiz de Landázuri - 1996 - Anuario Filosófico 29 (56):1185-1210.
Karl-Otto Apel reconstructs the "linguistic turn" of contemporary philosophy as the passage from Kant to Peirce a hundred years before. First he recovers the transcendental pragmatic of his youth, cleary distinguished from subsequent less trusthworthy translations. Later, Toward a Transformation of Philosophy shows the Kantian root of Peirce's thought. Apel's proposals are very controversial.

    Mathesis universalis en Proclo.Carlos Ortiz de Landázuri - 2000 - Anuario Filosófico 33 (66):229-258.
The author shows how Proclo is a precursor of 'Mathesis universalis' concept, without admiting the aporetic method of mathematics which is in Plato, Aristotle and Euclides thought. Today, his paradigm is rejected but it is a decisive factor to understand the sources of western thought. This study deals with the works of Brisson, Cleary, Trudeau, Beierwaltes and Schmitz.

Aristotle on the Many Senses of Priority. [REVIEW]Leo J. Elders - 1990 - Review of Metaphysics 44 (1):134-135.
A study of Aristotle's use of the "prior" and the "posterior" is most welcome, since it is likely to shed some light on his position with regard to Platonism. Nicomachean Ethics 1096a17-19 intimates that in Plato's view the pair "prior and posterior" belongs to the world of becoming and mutually dependent things. Cleary believes that its use by Aristotle is closely related to the latter's philosophical development. He hopes to discover, in the course of his study, the original set (...)

Traditions of Platonism: Essays in Honour of John Dillon. [REVIEW]Thomas A. Blackson - 2001 - Review of Metaphysics 54 (3):647-647.
This work is a Festschrift to celebrate the philosophical and scholarly achievements of John Dillon on the occasion of his sixtieth birthday on 15 September 1999. Such celebrations too often have little or no academic interest, but the editor is aware of this problem and has taken steps to prevent it from plaguing Traditions of Platonism. In order to avoid academic provincialism and to create a truly cosmopolitan collection of papers, contributed by some of the leading international experts within the (...)
