    Information Invariance and Quantum Probabilities.Časlav Brukner & Anton Zeilinger - 2009 - Foundations of Physics 39 (7):677-689.
We consider probabilistic theories in which the most elementary system, a two-dimensional system, contains one bit of information. The bit is assumed to be contained in any complete set of mutually complementary measurements. The requirement of invariance of the information under a continuous change of the set of mutually complementary measurements uniquely singles out a measure of information, which is quadratic in probabilities. The assumption which gives the same scaling of the number of degrees of freedom with the dimension as (...)

  2. Complementarity and Information in “Delayed-choice for Entanglement Swapping”.Časlav Brukner, Markus Aspelmeyer & Anton Zeilinger - 2005 - Foundations of Physics 35 (11):1909-1919.
Building on Peres’ idea of “Delayed-choice for entanglement swapping” we show that even the degree to which quantum systems were entangled can be defined after they have been registered and may even not exist any more. This does not arise as a paradox if the quantum state is viewed as just a representative of information. Moreover such a view gives a natural quantification of the complementarity between the measure of information about the input state for teleportation and the amount of (...)

Comment on Healey’s “Quantum Theory and the Limits of Objectivity”.Veronika Baumann, Flavio Del Santo & Časlav Brukner - 2019 - Foundations of Physics 49 (7):741-749.
In this comment we critically review an argument against the existence of objective physical outcomes, recently proposed by Healey [1]. We show that his gedankenexperiment, based on a combination of “Wigner’s friend” scenarios and Bell’s inequalities, suffers from the main criticism, that the computed correlation functions entering the Bell’s inequality are in principle experimentally inaccessible, and hence the author’s claim is in principle not testable. We discuss perspectives for fixing that by adapting the proposed protocol and show that this, however, (...)

Relational Quantum Mechanics is About Facts, Not States: A Reply to Pienaar and Brukner.Andrea Di Biagio & Carlo Rovelli - 2022 - Foundations of Physics 52 (3):1-21.
In recent works, Časlav Brukner and Jacques Pienaar have raised interesting objections to the relational interpretation of quantum mechanics. We answer these objections in detail and show that, far from questioning the viability of the interpretation, they sharpen and clarify it.

    Beyond radical humanism. An attempt to critically confront Liebsch’s heterocentrism.Caslav Koprivica - 2020 - Filozofija I Društvo 31 (4):577-587.
Methodologically, heterocentrism is the principal starting point of several recent Liebsch?s theoretical contributions, the meaning of which is simply to be taken as the protection of man. In one decisive sense, for him, keeping someone in a position of otherness already con?tains the germ of violence: making an other leads to alienating subordination. In this paper, we examine the sustainability of the author?s universal interpretive thesis that the history of our culture is a history of violence: it turns out to (...)

Stanislav Krakov: Phenomenology of the inner consciousness of combat.Caslav Koprivica - 2014 - Filozofija I Društvo 25 (3):323-342.
In this text, the work of Serbian writer Stanislav Krakov, between the two world wars, the famous, and later, due to ideological divisions, repressed and forgotten figure, is ovserverd through the lens of philosophy of existence and phenomenology. The?philosophical? significance of Krakov?s autobiographical war prose, which in the aesthetic, especially formal-innovative aspect, represented the pinnacle of the genre of that time Serbian literature, is that it can be viewed as a first-class document of phenomenological introspection of a man in situation (...)

    Reflections on Zeilinger–Brukner Information Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics.Andrei Khrennikov - 2016 - Foundations of Physics 46 (7):836-844.
In this short review I present my personal reflections on Zeilinger–Brukner information interpretation of quantum mechanics. In general, this interpretation is very attractive for me. However, its rigid coupling to the notion of irreducible quantum randomness is a very complicated issue which I plan to address in more detail. This note may be useful for general public interested in quantum foundations, especially because I try to analyze essentials of the information interpretation critically. This review is written in non-physicist friendly manner. (...)

  14. On a supposed conceptual inadequacy of the Shannon information in quantum mechanics.G. C. - 2003 - Studies in History and Philosophy of Science Part B: Studies in History and Philosophy of Modern Physics 34 (3):441-468.
Recently, Brukner and Zeilinger (Phys. Rev. Lett. 83(17) (2001) 3354) have claimed that the Shannon information is not well defined as a measure of information in quantum mechanics, adducing arguments that seek to show that it is inextricably tied to classical notions of measurement. It is shown here that these arguments do not succeed: the Shannon information does not have problematic ties to classical concepts. In a further argument, Brukner and Zeilinger compare the Shannon information unfavourably to their (...)

Foundation of Quantum Mechanics: Once Again.Paul Drechsel - 2019 - Foundations of Science 24 (2):375-389.
Brukner and Dakić proposed a very simple axiom system as a foundation for quantum theory. It implies the qubit and quantum entanglement. Because this axiom system aims at the core of our understanding of nature, it must be brought to the forum of the philosophy of nature. For philosophical reasons, a completely denied champion of quantum theory, imaginarity i, is added into this axiom system. In relation to Bell’s inequality, this leads to a deeper ‘philosophical’ understanding of quantum nature (...)

  17. The Applicability of Shannon Information in Quantum Mechanics and Zeilinger's Foundational Principle.Christopher G. Timpson - 2003 - Philosophy of Science 70 (5):1233-1244.
Recently, Brukner and Zeilinger have presented a number of arguments suggesting that the Shannon information is not well defined as a measure of information in quantum mechanics. If established, this result would be highly significant, as the Shannon information is fundamental to the way we think about information not only in classical but also in quantum information theory. On consideration, however, these arguments are found unsuccessful; I go on to suggest how they might be arising as a consequence of (...)

According to QBism, quantum states, unitary evolutions, and measurement operators are all understood as personal judgments of the agent using the formalism. Meanwhile, quantum measurement outcomes are understood as the personal experiences of the same agent. Wigner’s conundrum of the friend, in which two agents ostensibly have different accounts of whether or not there is a measurement outcome, thus poses no paradox for QBism. Indeed the resolution of Wigner’s original thought experiment was central to the development of QBist thinking. The (...)

    Higher-Order Interference in Extensions of Quantum Theory.Ciarán M. Lee & John H. Selby - 2017 - Foundations of Physics 47 (1):89-112.
Quantum interference, manifest in the two slit experiment, lies at the heart of several quantum computational speed-ups and provides a striking example of a quantum phenomenon with no classical counterpart. An intriguing feature of quantum interference arises in a variant of the standard two slit experiment, in which there are three, rather than two, slits. The interference pattern in this set-up can be written in terms of the two and one slit patterns obtained by blocking one, or more, of the (...)

Informational foundations of quantum theory: critical reconsideration from the point of view of a phenomenologist.Tina Bilban - 2021 - Continental Philosophy Review 54 (4):581-594.
Several contemporary interpretations of quantum mechanics use the concept of information as a tool for addressing and explaining the quantum world. In the article, I focus on Zeilinger-Brukner's informational foundations of quantum theory. I propose that with a phenomenological approach—which, unlike most of the contemporary interpretations of quantum mechanics, exceeds the mere dichotomy between realism and anti-realism—we can address the epistemological questions re-opened by IFQT and the parts of the interpretation that are recognized as problematic by its critics. After (...)
