Approaches to model evaluation in terms of Occam's razor or principles of parsimony cannot avoid judgements about the relative importance of aspects of the models. Assumptions about “core processing” are usually considered more important than those related to decision components, but when the decision is related to a central feature of the processing, it becomes extremely difficult to tease apart the influences of core and decision components and to draw sensible conclusions about underlying architecture. Le Conseil des aînés du Québec a instauré, en 2008, le Comité national d’éthique sur le vieillissement et les changements démographiques, une instance permanente qui a pour fonction de soutenir les actions institutionnelles ou non institutionnelles en émettant des opinions et avis sur les enjeux éthiques relatifs au vieillissement individuel et collectif. Cet article vise à expliquer le contexte de la création d’une telle instance, de même que les modalités qui lui permettent de remplir efficacement son mandat.

It is no inconsiderable endeavor to undertake a philosophical analysis of the notions of inertia and absolute space from Newton to Einstein. This is all the more so insofar as Ghins' approach is far from the orthodoxy of the logical empiricists: his claim is that the scientists themselves were seeking to attribute the effects of inertia to real causes, or, in other words, "to specify adequately the system or systems of reference relative to which motions, whether accelerated or not, would (...) give rise or not to such effects".
