Im Zentrum des Buches steht die Betrachtung der Wiederholung in ihren vielfältigen, kulturübergreifenden Erscheinungsformen. Zahlreiche Analysen aus den Bereichen der abendländischen Kunstmusik, der europäischen Volksmusik, der afrikanischen, indonesischen und indischen Musik sowie der populären Musik untermauern die einzigartige Bedeutung der Wiederholung als musikalisches Gestaltungsmittel. Die europäische Theorie der musikalischen Form, mathematische Betrachtungen, Minimal Music (als Inbegriff repetitiver Musik) sowie ästhetische Überlegungen werden in einzelnen Kapiteln behandelt. Eine Systematisierung der Wiederholungsstrukturen steht am Ende des Buches. Nicolaus Cusanus' thought appears in much to anticipate or run in the direction of modern philosophy, especially that of Leibniz, in particular what concerns his - for the middle ages novel - mathematical reasoning. This article pursues the singularity of the mathematics of both thinkers back to their theological or philosophical intention. Continuity from Cusanus to Leibniz must thus be seen as problematical not only in relation to the infinitesimal calculus. Cusanus adheres, particularly in his specialist mathematical calculations, to the (...) impossibility of continuous transitions and accordingly also of an exact squaring of the circle. Within this limit he seeks the proximity of God in his absolute distinction from all that is finite. Leibniz, on the other hand, achieves the exact calculation of the number π with the support of the continuity principle. This refers not only to God's absolute freedom in the choice of the best but points to a modern mediation between finite and infinite, just that which is rejected by Cusanus. (shrink)

If we were to look caref ully at recent commentary on Descartes's theories of ideas and Sensation, we would find that a large number of commentators hold that he believes the following:.Ideas are representational,Sensations are ideas,Sensations are not representational.This is an inconsistent triad: any two of the above claims can be true together, but they cannot all be true together. The inconsistent triad can be avoided if we reject one of the claims. Some have argued that Descartes did not hold.1 (...) Some have argued that he did not hold. I believe that Descartes held and, and will argue that he did not hold.Generally, any account of Cartesian Sensation at the very least must account for sensations in terms of the ontology. The account must say whether they are modes or not, and if modes, modes of what — mind, body, both, the union, and so on. With its early promotion of French writers such as Georges Bataille, Maurice Blanchot, Jacques Derrida, Jean-Pierre Faye and Edmond Jabès, Curtains’ re-appearance in 2016 arrives after an exhibition at Focal Point Gallery in 2012 that was recreated from an earlier 1992 work at Cabinet Gallery around the concept of ‘disappearing’. The invited contributions come from thirteen artists with whom the editor has engaged over the years. (...)
