People undergo many idiosyncratic experiences throughout their lives that may contribute to individual differences in the size and structure of their knowledge representations. Ultimately, these can have important implications for individuals' cognitive performance. We review evidence that suggests a relationship between individual experiences, the size and structure of semantic representations, as well as individual and age differences in cognitive performance. We conclude that the extent to which experience-dependent changes in semantic representations contribute to individual differences in cognitive aging remains unclear. (...) To help fill this gap, we outline an empirical agenda that utilizes network analysis and involves the concurrent assessment of large-scale semantic networks and cognitive performance in younger and older adults. Progressive supranuclear palsy is a movement disorder with prominent tau neuropathology. Brain diseases with abnormal tau deposits are called tauopathies, the most common of which is Alzheimer's disease. Environmental causes of tauopathies include repetitive head trauma associated with some sports. To identify common genetic variation contributing to risk for tauopathies, we carried out a genome-wide association study of 1,114 individuals with PSP and 3,247 controls followed by a second stage in which we genotyped 1,051 cases and 3,560 controls for the (...) stage 1 SNPs that yielded P ≤ 10-3. We found significant previously unidentified signals associated with PSP risk at STX6, EIF2AK3 and MOBP. We confirmed two independent variants in MAPT affecting risk for PSP, one of which influences MAPT brain expression. The genes implicated encode proteins for vesicle-membrane fusion at the Golgi-endosomal interface, for the endoplasmic reticulum unfolded protein response and for a myelin structural component. © 2011 Nature America, Inc. Cet ouvrage donne une place importante à l'idée de la justice selon deux philosophes : selon la théorie de Thomas Hobbes elle est prise dans un cercle entre la loi, le souverain et la violence, tandis que pour Jacques Derrida, elle ne doit pas être limitée à la loi. L'intention de l'auteure, n'est pas d'apporter une nouvelle théorie, mais de montrer qu'une idée philosophique peut avoir une influence en politique ou en droit selon les propositions des Critical Legal Studies.

The author discusses a number of perspectives concerning the politicization of public administration. Firstly, he argues that it be hardlyadequate to confine the concept of politicization to the increasing penetration of political par ties into the sphere of public administration. The politicization of public administration refers to more intensive patternsof bureaucratie polities as well. Secondly, he warns against a too easy acceptance of the idea that a politicization of public administration has taken place. One might say that what is aften (...) considered as a growing penetration of political factors into the administrative sphere actually pertains to the increasing awareness and visibility regarding the frequent and intensive relations between polities and administration. Edgar de Bruyne publie ses Études d'esthétique médiévale en 1946, un ouvrage d'une grande dimension qui a dmandé baucoup d'effort, tenant compte avec les autres publication qu'il avait publié dans les années avant la guerre. L'article présent situe de Bruyne dans la philosophie louvaniste et les néo-scolastiques. L'auteur constate que de Bruyne, thomiste qu'il était lui-même, a liberé l'idée esthétique médiévale de l'idée esthétique thomiste. Plus tard il écrivit sur l'esthétique dans la pensée grecque et romaine jusqu'à l'humanisme. AInsi il (...) démontrait qu'il n'y avait pas de système ethétique thomiste en soi, mais que ces idées faisaient partie d'une plus large idée d'esthétique, dans laquelle l'intuition intellectuelle joue un rôle important. Grâce à de Bruyne on connaît mieux la civilisation médiévale. (shrink)
