Integrating Distributed Acoustic Sensing, Borehole 3C Geophone Array, and Surface Seismic Array Data to Identify Long-Period Long-Duration Seismic Events During Stimulation of a Marcellus Shale Gas Reservoir.Payam Kavousi Ghahfarokhi, Thomas H. Wilson, Timothy Robert Carr, Abhash Kumar, Richard Hammack & Haibin Di - 2019 - Interpretation 7 (1):SA1-SA10.
Microseismic monitoring by downhole geophones, surface seismic, fiber-optic distributed acoustic sensing, and distributed temperature sensing observations were made during the hydraulic fracture stimulation of the MIP-3H well in the Marcellus Shale in northern West Virginia. DAS and DTS data measure the fiber strain and temperature, respectively, along a fiber-optic cable cemented behind the casing of the well. The presence of long-period long-duration events is evaluated in the borehole geophones, DAS data, and surface seismic data of one of the MIP-3H stimulated (...)

Consistent Questions of Ambiguity in Organizational Crisis Communication: Jack in the Box as a Case Study. [REVIEW]Robert R. Ulmer & Timothy L. Sellnow - 2000 - Journal of Business Ethics 25 (2):143 - 155.
The complexity of crisis situations allows for corporate responses to create multiple interpretations for organizational stakeholders concerning crisis evidence, the organization's intentions, and the locus of responsibility. Hence, organizations have the ability to emphasize an interpretation where the organization is viewed most favorably. Using Jack in the Box as a case study, we apply stakeholder theory to ascertain the ethical implications of employing strategic ambiguity in organizational crisis communication. We conclude that the crisis response provided by Jack in the Box's (...)

Attitudes About Corporate Social Responsibility: Business Student Predictors.Robert W. Kolodinsky, Timothy M. Madden, Daniel S. Zisk & Eric T. Henkel - 2010 - Journal of Business Ethics 91 (2):167-181.
Four predictors were posited to affect business student attitudes about the social responsibilities of business, also known as corporate social responsibility (CSR). Applying Forsyth's (1980, "Journal of Personality and Social Psychology" 39, 175–184, 1992, "Journal of Business Ethics" 11, 461–470) personal moral philosophy model, we found that ethical idealism had a positive relationship with CSR attitudes, and ethical relativism a negative relationship. We also found materialism to be negatively related to CSR attitudes. Spirituality among business students did not significantly predict (...)

    Fallacies.Robert J. Fogelin & Timothy J. Duggan - 1987 - Argumentation 1 (3):255-262.
Fallacies are things people commit, and when they commit them they do something wrong. What kind of activities are people engaged in when they commit fallacies, and in what way are they doing something wrong? Many different things are called fallacies. The diversity of the use of the concept of a fallacy suggests that we are dealing with a family of cases not related by a common essence. However, we suggest a simple account of the nature of fallacies which encompasses (...)

Phonological Knowledge: Conceptual and Empirical Issues.Noel Burton-Roberts, Philip Carr & Gerard J. Docherty (eds.) - 2000 - Oxford University Press UK.
Phonological Knowledge addresses central questions in the foundations of phonology and locates them within their larger linguistic and philosophical context. Phonology is a discipline grounded in observable facts, but like any discipline it rests on conceptual assumptions. This book investigates the nature, status, and acquisition of phonological knowledge: it enquires into the conceptual and empirical foundations of phonology, and considers the relation of phonology to the theory of language and other capacities of mind. The authors address a wide range of (...)

The Bioethics of Gene Therapy.Robert Scott Smith, Bryan A. Piras & Carr J. Smith - 2010 - The National Catholic Bioethics Quarterly 10 (1):45-50.
Gene therapy is the modification of the human genetic code to prevent disease or cure illness. This technology is in its infancy and remains confined to experimental clinical trials. Once the present barriers are overcome, gene therapy will confront humanity with a host of ethical challenges. Therapies targeted to the genes of germ-line cells will introduce permanent changes to the human gene pool. Furthermore, nonmedical gene modifications have the potential to introduce a new form of eugenics into our society by (...)

Porosity is a fundamental property that characterizes the storage capability of fluid and gas-bearing formations in a reservoir. An accurate porosity value can be measured from core samples in the laboratory; however, core analysis is expensive and time consuming. Well-log data can be used to calculate porosity, but the availability of log suites is often limited in mature fields. Therefore, robust porosity prediction requires integration of core-measured porosity with available well-log suites to control for changes in lithology and fluid content. (...)

THERE IS WIDESPREAD AGREEMENT among historians that the writings of Robert Boyle (1697-1691) constitute a valuable archive for understanding the concerns of seventeenth-century British natural philosophers. His writings have often been seen as representing, in one fashion or another, all of the leading intellectual currents of his day. ~ There is somewhat less consensus, however, on the proper historiographic method for interpreting these writings, as well as on the specific details of the beliefs expressed in them. Studies seeking to (...)

Pore Characterization of the Marcellus Shale by Nitrogen Adsorption and Prediction of Its Gas Storage Capacity.Yixuan Zhu, Timothy Carr, Zhongmin Zhang & Liaosha Song - forthcoming - Interpretation:1-59.
In a shale gas reservoir, pore characterization is an important factor to determine gas storage capacity. However, the nanometer scale pore system in shale is difficult to explore by traditional optical, scanning electron microscopy or even nuclear magnetic resonance well logging. We investigated the pore structure and storage capacity of the Marcellus Shale through integration of petrophysical analysis from lab and well logging data, and nitrogen adsorption. The isotherm of Marcellus Shale is a composite isotherm, which has features of Type (...)
