Articulating a non-representational perspective on knowledge production and artistic practices, combined with an analysis of space, this book offers a new performative and relational re-turn to representation in contemporary technospaces. The radically materialist, posthumanist and performative position from which this situated aesthetics of technospaces is elaborated, aligns this book not only with non-representational theory, but also with the theories of material feminism, feminist geography, situated epistemologies, science and technology studies, actor-network theory, performance studies and new media studies.

IntroductionMentalizing is a key aspect of social cognition. Several researchers assume that mentalization has two systems, an explicit one and an implicit one. In schizophrenia, several studies have confirmed the deficit of explicit mentalizing, but little data are available on non-explicit mentalizing. However, increasing research activity can be detected recently in implicit mentalizing. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to summarize the existing results of implicit mentalizing in schizophreniaMethodsA systematic search was performed in four major databases: MEDLINE, (...) EMBASE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Web of Science. Eleven publications were selected. Five studies were found to be eligible for quantitative synthesis, and 9 studies were included in qualitative synthesis.ResultsThe meta-analysis revealed significantly lower accuracy, slower reaction time during implicit mentalizing in patients with schizophrenia. The systematic review found different brain activation pattern, further alterations in visual scanning, cue fixation, face looking time, and difficulties in perspective taking.DiscussionOverall, in addition to the deficit of explicit mentalization, implicit mentalization performance is also affected in schizophrenia, if not to the same extent. It seems likely that some elements of implicit mentalization might be relatively unaffected, but the effectiveness is limited by certain neurocognitive deficits. This essay focuses on the possibility of adopting a representational approach for technoscience, in which representation is considered as a situated process of dynamic “intra-action” (Barad 2007 ). Re-elaborating the recent critiques of representationalism (Thrift 2008 ), my analysis begins by analysing Hayles’s situated model of representation from an early essay where she explains her definition of constrained constructivism (Hayles [ 1991 ] 1997). The essay then discusses the notions of figuration and diffraction and the way they are employed by (...) Haraway in many of her writings for her critique of technoscience (Haraway 1991 , 1997 ). Finally, after considering diffraction through Barad’s reading of this practice in the context of her theory of agential realism ( 2007 ), it shows the links that relate constrained constructivism, situated knowledge and agential realism, and the way all of them work at “diffract[ing] the rays of technoscience” (Haraway 1997 : 16) through an alternative representational practice. This paper explains through conceptualization of the texts how methodological factors ensure realization of the well-considered ideas through the continuous synchronization with the interdisciplinary space, religious communications. It reveals the concomitant involvement of the "few processes simultaneity" including the complex of temporithmics. The proposed subject has not actually been studied from the heuristic standpoint. And, in the meantime, without conceptualization of how, to what extent and under what emerged situations methodological factors interconnect episodically, in segments or totally it is difficult (...) to explain the very essence of the philosophical-religious ideas. Speaking about the methods and the ideas two types of temporithmics remain unstudied till present time. However, there are reasons to assume that under the emerged circumstances the complex of temporithmics manifested in the form of harmony or symphony takes root naturally. At the same time the well-considered interconnections create possibilities for the "few processes simultaneity"1 that ensures consistency of the differently measured processes. And this becomes one of the prerequisites for functioning of the analyzed ideas. Little-studied remain to be the intrastructural characteristics of each idea; in the meantime wih periodical situationalness they correlate with the said complex of temporithmics. Unexplored is also the issue how the consistent ambiguities are connected with the autonomous status of each of the philosohical-religious idea. (shrink)

На основі спадщини українських філософів 1860-1930-х років уперше розкрито специфіку функціонування філософорелігійних ідей у взаємодії з методологією їх увиразнення. У статті автор розглядає ідею Бога крізь систему Його наймень, а також стосовно структури людини та світобудови, використовуючи етимолого-семантичний, структурний і функціональний підходи. Автор доходить висновку, що методологія дослідження ідеї Бога є поліваріантною.

На підставі аналізу праць українських мислителів 40-х рр. ХІХ ст. - 50-х рр. ХХ ст. осмислено ідею Бога щодо системи наймень і щодо структури людини та світобудови. Зазначено, що з історико-філософського погляду використання етимологічно-семантичного та еволюційного методів дозволяє стверджувати: ідея Бога містить у собі гебрайські та давньогрецькі значення і в процесі свого становлення зазнала метаморфоз із проявами філософорелігійного синтезу.

На підставі спадщини українських мислителів проаналізовано єрархічність у контексті двох філософорелігійних ідей - Божества і системи Його наймень, а також ідеї Бога в структурі людини та світобудови. З'ясовано, як функціонує єрархічність у руслі релігійних комунікацій, міждисциплінарного простору. Осмислено семантичні рівні єрархічності та вияви гармонії. Робиться висновок про системну закономірність процесів і про перспективність пошуку нових концепцій.

Уперше із залученням методу синтезу на підставі спадщини українських мислителів 1840-х - 1970-х років проаналізовано особливості функціонування філософорелігійної ідеї Бога та ідеї істинності й повноти релігійних комунікацій. Особливістю методологічних розмислів є увага до різноманітних проявів темпоритміки - одного з дієвих чинників у дослідженні окреслених ідей. Автор стверджує, що метод синтезу базується на гармонії релігійних комунікацій1 та міждисциплінарного простору.

Control measures directed at carriers of multidrug-resistant organisms are traditionally approached as a trade-off between public interests on the one hand and individual autonomy on the other. We propose to reframe the ethical issue and consider control measures directed at carriers an issue of solidarity. Rather than asking “whether it is justified to impose strict measures”, we propose asking “how to best care for a person’s carriership and well-being in ways that do not imply an unacceptable risk for others?”. A (...) solidarity approach could include elevating baseline levels of precaution measures and accepting certain risks in cases where there is exceptionally much at stake. A generous national compensation policy that also covers for costs related to dedicated care is essential in a solidarity approach. An additional benefit of reframing the questions is that it helps to better acknowledge that being subjected to control measures is a highly personal matter. (shrink)

Timelines is an inquiry into the nature of time, both as an apparent feature of the external physical world and as a fundamental feature of our experience of ourselves in the world. The principal argument of Timelines is that our coventional ideas about time are largely mistaken and that what we think of as independent physical time is actually our calibration of a certain relation between events. This paper suggests that time could have a much richer mathematical structure than that of the real numbers. Clark & Read (1984) argue that a hypertask (uncountably many tasks done in a finite length of time) cannot be performed. Assuming that time takes values in the real numbers, we give a trivial proof of this. If we instead take the surreal numbers as a model of time, then not only are hypertasks possible but so is an ultratask (a sequence which (...) includes one task done for each ordinal number—thus a proper class of them). We argue that the surreal numbers are in some respects a better model of the temporal continuum than the real numbers as defined in mainstream mathematics, and that surreal time and hypertasks are mathematically possible. Berger died before it was completed, but the text has been assembled and illustrated by his longtime collaborator and friend Selçuk Demirel, and has an introduction (...) by Maria Nadotti. What Time Is It? is a profound and playful meditation on the illusory nature of time. Berger, the great art critic and Man Booker Prize–winning author, reflects on what time has come to mean to us in modern life. Our perception of time assumes a uniform and ceaseless passing of time, yet time is turbulent. It expands and contracts according to the intensity of the lived moment. We talk of time “saved” in a hundred household appliances; time, like money, is exchanged for the content it lacks. Berger posits the idea that time can lengthen lifetimes once we seize the present moment. “What-is-to-come, what-is-to-be-gained empties what-is.”. (shrink)

Many countries have implemented infection control measures directed at carriers of multidrug-resistant organisms. To explore the ethical implications of these measures, we analyzed 227 consultations about multidrug resistance and compared them with the literature on communicable disease in general. We found that control measures aimed at carriers have a range of negative implications. Although moral dilemmas seem similar to those encountered while implementing control measures for other infectious diseases, 4 distinct features stand out for carriage of multidrug-resistant organisms: carriage presents (...) itself as a state of being; carriage has limited relevance for the health of the carrier; carriage has little relevance outside healthcare settings; and antimicrobial resistance is a slowly evolving threat on which individual carriers have limited effect. These features are of ethical relevance because they influence the way we traditionally think about infectious disease control and urge us to pay more attention to the personal experience of the individual carrier.
