Interrelationships of Marcellus Shale Gas Production to Frac-Induced Microseismicity, Interpreted Minor Faults and Fractures Zones, and Stimulated Reservoir Volume, Greene County, Pennsylvania.Thomas H. Wilson, Ariel K. Hart & Pete Sullivan - 2016 - Interpretation: SEG 4 (1):T15-T30.
The data we analyzed are from a Marcellus Shale gas field in Greene County, southwestern Pennsylvania. We first investigated the relationship between microseismic event trends and discontinuities extracted from 3D seismic data and their relationship to [Formula: see text]. This analysis was followed by an examination of the relationship of cumulative gas production to radiated energy, stimulated reservoir volume, and energy density. We have determined that microseismic event trends observed in multiwell hydraulic fracture treatments were similar to the trends of (...)

The Western Australia Modeling Project — Part 2: Seismic Validation.Jeffrey Shragge, David Lumley, Julien Bourget, Toby Potter, Taka Miyoshi, Ben Witten, Jeremie Giraud, Thomas Wilson, Afzal Iqbal, Mohammad Emami Niri & Beau Whitney - 2019 - Interpretation 7 (4):T793-T807.
Large-scale 3D modeling of realistic earth models is being increasingly undertaken in industry and academia. These models have proven useful for various activities such as geologic scenario testing through seismic finite-difference modeling, investigating new acquisition geometries, and validating novel seismic imaging, inversion, and interpretation methods. We have evaluated the results of the Western Australia Modeling project, involving the development of a large-scale 3D geomodel representative of geology of the Carnarvon Basin, located offshore of WA’s North West Shelf. Constrained by a (...)

Marcellus Shale Model Stimulation Tests and Microseismic Response Yield Insights Into Mechanical Properties and the Reservoir Discrete Fracture Network.Thomas H. Wilson, Tim Carr, B. J. Carney, Malcolm Yates, Keith MacPhail, Adrian Morales, Ian Costello, Jay Hewitt, Emily Jordon, Natalie Uschner, Miranda Thomas, Si Akin, Oluwaseun Magbagbeola, Asbjoern Johansen, Leah Hogarth, Olatunbosun Anifowoshe & Kashif Naseem - 2018 - Interpretation: SEG 6 (2):T231-T243.
We have developed stimulation tests of a model discrete fracture network in the Marcellus Shale reservoir, Morgantown, West Virginia. The microseismic response observed from the modeled stage is characteristic of that observed in several stages along the length of the horizontal well, so that the workflow developed in this paper can be easily extended to other stages in this and other Marcellus Shale wells. The model DFN is designed using log data, including fracture image logs from vertical pilot and horizontal (...)

The Western Australia Modeling Project — Part 1: Geomodel Building.Jeffrey Shragge, Julien Bourget, David Lumley, Jeremie Giraud, Thomas Wilson, Afzal Iqbal, Mohammad Emami Niri, Beau Whitney, Toby Potter, Taka Miyoshi & Benjamin Witten - 2019 - Interpretation 7 (4):T773-T791.
A key goal in industry and academic seismic research is overcoming long-standing imaging, inversion, and interpretation challenges. One way to address these challenges is to develop a realistic 3D geomodel constrained by local-to-regional geologic, petrophysical, and seismic data. Such a geomodel can serve as a benchmark for numerical experiments that help users to better understand the key factors underlying — and devise novel solutions to — these exploration and development challenges. We have developed a two-part case study on the Western (...)

Genealogy of the Way: The Construction and Uses of the Confucian Tradition in Late Imperial China.Thomas A. Wilson - 1995 - Stanford University Press.
Beginning in the Southern Sung, one Confucian sect gradually came to dominate literati culture and, by the Ming dynasty, was canonized as state orthodoxy. This book is a historical and textual critique of the process by which claims to exclusive possession of the truth came to serve power. The author analyzes the formation of the Confucian canon and its role in the civil service examinations, the enshrinement of worthies in the Confucian temple, and the emergence of the Confucian anthology, activities (...)

Fracture Intensity Attribute for the Tensleep Reservoir at Teapot Dome, Wyoming, USA.Payam Kavousi Ghahfarokhi & Thomas H. Wilson - 2015 - Interpretation: SEG 3 (3):SZ41-SZ48.
The Tensleep oil reservoir at Teapot Dome, Wyoming, USA, is a naturally fractured tight sandstone reservoir that has been considered for carbon dioxide enhanced oil recovery and sequestration. Interpretation of open fractures identified in wireline image logs from the field suggests that the reservoir fracture network is dominated by early formed structural hinge-oblique fractures with interconnectivity enhanced by hinge-parallel and hinge-perpendicular fracture sets. Previous studies show that 3D seismic scale discontinuity attributes are dominated by more recent hinge-parallel and strike slip (...)

Self-interest, compassion, and consistency in an environmental ethics class: would students give up their retirement to stop the coronavirus?Emily A. Davis, Thomas P. Wilson & Bradley R. Reynolds - 2021 - International Journal of Ethics Education 6 (2):311-321.
During spring of 2020, environmental ethics students at a medium sized metropolitan university in the Southeastern United States were asked to read and comment on classic essays from Robert Heilbroner and Garrett Hardin, essays regarding our responsibilities towards future generations. In general, students seemed to hold more with Heilbroner’s stance, which left room for compassion, while condemning Hardin’s harshness. Students were then asked to provide written responses stating whether they would personally sacrifice their eventual retirement in order to stop COVID-19 (...)

Perception-Action Links and the Evolution of Human Speech Exchange.Thomas P. Wilson & Margaret Wilson - 2001 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 25 (1):47-48.
A perception-action system may underlie the mechanisms by which human speech exchange in social interaction is managed, as well as the evolutionary precursors of these mechanisms in closely related species. Some phenomena of interaction well-studied by sociologists are suggested as a point of departure for further research.

Integrating Distributed Acoustic Sensing, Borehole 3C Geophone Array, and Surface Seismic Array Data to Identify Long-Period Long-Duration Seismic Events During Stimulation of a Marcellus Shale Gas Reservoir.Payam Kavousi Ghahfarokhi, Thomas H. Wilson, Timothy Robert Carr, Abhash Kumar, Richard Hammack & Haibin Di - 2019 - Interpretation 7 (1):SA1-SA10.
Microseismic monitoring by downhole geophones, surface seismic, fiber-optic distributed acoustic sensing, and distributed temperature sensing observations were made during the hydraulic fracture stimulation of the MIP-3H well in the Marcellus Shale in northern West Virginia. DAS and DTS data measure the fiber strain and temperature, respectively, along a fiber-optic cable cemented behind the casing of the well. The presence of long-period long-duration events is evaluated in the borehole geophones, DAS data, and surface seismic data of one of the MIP-3H stimulated (...)
