Seismic Expression and Geomorphology of Igneous Bodies: A Taranaki Basin, New Zealand, Case Study.Lennon Infante-Paez & Kurt J. Marfurt - 2017 - Interpretation: SEG 5 (3):SK121-SK140.
Very little research has been done on volcanic rocks by the oil industry due to the misconception that these rocks cannot be “good reservoirs.” However, in the past two decades, significant quantities of hydrocarbons have been produced from volcanic rocks in China, New Zealand, and Argentina. In frontier basins, volcanic piles are sometimes misinterpreted to be hydrocarbon anomalies and/or carbonate buildups. Unlike clastic and carbonate systems, the 3D seismic geomorphology of igneous systems is only partially documented. We have integrated 3D (...)

Using Machine Learning as an Aid to Seismic Geomorphology, Which Attributes Are the Best Input?Lennon Infante-Paez & Kurt J. Marfurt - 2019 - Interpretation 7 (3):SE1-SE18.
Volcanic rocks with intermediate magma composition indicate distinctive patterns in seismic amplitude data. Depending on the processes by which they were extruded to the surface, these patterns may be chaotic, moderate-amplitude reflectors or continuous high-amplitude reflectors. We have identified appropriate seismic attributes that highlight the characteristics of such patterns and use them as input to self-organizing maps to isolate these volcanic facies from their clastic counterpart. Our analysis indicates that such clustering is possible when the patterns are approximately self-similar, such (...)

Malebranche: The Search After Truth: With Elucidations of the Search After Truth.Thomas M. Lennon & Paul J. Olscamp (eds.) - 1997 - Cambridge University Press.
Nicolas Malebranche is now recognised as a major figure in the history of philosophy, occupying a crucial place in the Rationalist tradition of Descartes, Spinoza and Leibniz. The Search after Truth is his first, longest and most important work; this volume also presents the Elucidations which accompanied its third edition, the result of comments that Malebranche solicited on the original work and an important repository of his theories of ideas and causation. Together, the two texts constitute the complete expression of (...)

    In-Context Interpretation: Avoiding Pitfalls in Misidentification of Igneous Bodies in Seismic Data.Lennon Infante-Paez & Kurt J. Marfurt - 2018 - Interpretation: SEG 6 (4):SL29-SL42.
In the past few decades, many exploration wells have been drilled into igneous rocks because of their similar seismic expressions to common exploration targets, such as carbonate mounds, sheet sands, and sand-prone sinuous channels. In cases in which interpreters cannot clearly delineate sedimentary features such as channels or fans, the interpretation may be driven primarily by bright spot anomalies, in which a poor understanding of the wavelet polarity may lead to an erroneous interpretation. Although many wells drilled into igneous rocks (...)

    A correspondência entre Locke e Molyneux.Thomas M. Lennon & D. Anthony Larivière - 2000 - Discurso 31:157-200.

    Re-Enchanting the World: The Role of Imagination in Perception: K. Lennon.K. Lennon - 2010 - Philosophy 85 (3):375-389.
This paper defends what the philosopher Merleau Ponty coins ‘the imaginary texture of the real’. It is suggested that the imagination is at work in the everyday world which we perceive, the world as it is for us. In defending this view a concept of the imagination is invoked which has both similarities with and differences from, our everyday notion. The everyday notion contrasts the imaginary and the real. The imaginary is tied to the fictional or the illusory. Here it (...)

Vulnerable Bodies, Vulnerable Borders: Extraterritoriality and Human Trafficking.Sharron A. FitzGerald - 2012 - Feminist Legal Studies 20 (3):227-244.
In this article, I interrogate how the UK government constructs and manipulates the idiom of the vulnerable female, trafficked migrant. Specifically, I analyse how the government aligns aspects of its anti-trafficking plans with plans to enhance extraterritorial immigration and border control. In order to do this, I focus on the discursive strategies that revolve around the UK’s anti-trafficking initiatives. I argue that discourses of human trafficking as prostitution, modern-day slavery and organised crime do important work. Primarily, they provide the government (...)

    Imaginary Bodies and Worlds.Kathleen Lennon - 2004 - Inquiry: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Philosophy 47 (2):107 – 122.
In this paper I distil a concept of the imaginary with which to make good the claim that our mode of embodied subjectivity is an imaginary embodiment in an imaginary world. The concept of the imaginary employed is not one in which imaginary worlds are contrasted with the real, but one in which imagination is a condition of there being a real for us. The images and forms in terms of which our imagined bodies and worlds are constituted carry, in (...)

Peter Winch prefaced The Idea of A Social Science with the above quotation adumbrating his thesis that the rules endowing actions with their sense are, like all rules, relative to a social context. A good example, no less illustrative for being imaginary, is Wittgenstein’s of a society in which lumber is piled in arbitrarily varying heights and priced according to the area occupied by the base of the piles. When asked why they do not price the lumber according to the (...)

    J.S. Mill on Plural Voting, Competence and Participation.J. J. Miller - 2003 - History of Political Thought 24 (4):647-667.
J.S. Mill's plural voting proposal in Considerations on Representative Government presents political theorists with a puzzle: the elitist proposal that some individuals deserve a greater voice than others seems at odds with Mill's repeated arguments for the value of full participation in government. This essay looks at Mill's arguments for plural voting, arguing that, far from being motivated solely by elitism, Mill's account is actually driven by a commitment to both competence and participation. It goes on to argue that, for (...)

Many writers offer accounts of our grasp of the expressive gestures of others, or of the expressive content of works of art, in terms of our imagining the experiences of another, or ourselves having certain experiences, or, in the case of works of art, a persona to have experiences. This invocation of what Kant would term, the reproductive imagination, in the perception of expressive content, is contested in this paper. In its place it is suggested that the detection of expressive (...)

    Compromise: J. P. Day.J. P. Day - 1989 - Philosophy 64 (250):471-485.
Human conflict and its resolution is obviously a subject of great practical importance. Equally obviously, it is a vast subject, ranging from total war at one end of the spectrum to negotiated settlement at its other end. The literature on the subject is correspondingly vast and, in recent times, technical, thanks to the valuable contributions made to it by game theorists, economists, and writers on industrial and international relations. In this essay, however, I shall discuss only one familiar form of (...)
