  3. A Political Economy of the Senses: Neoliberalism, Reification, Critique.Anita Sridhar Chari - 2015 - Cambridge University Press.
Anita Chari revives the concept of reification from Marx and the Frankfurt School to spotlight the resistance to neoliberal capitalism now forming at the level of political economy and at the more sensate, experiential level of subjective transformation. Reading art by Oliver Ressler, Zanny Begg, Claire Fontaine, Jason Lazarus, and Mika Rottenberg, as well as the politics of Occupy Wall Street, Chari identifies practices through which artists and activists have challenged neoliberalism's social and political logics, exposing its inherent (...)

Socratic Charis: Philosophy Without the Agon.Lisa Atwood Wilkinson - 2013 - Lexington Books.
This work offers an evaluation of Plato’s portrayal of “Socrates” in relation to models of the ancient Greek “agon”, oral poetic performance, and the practices of “xenia”. The author reinterprets the values of the oral tradition and xenia as non-agonistic, and shows how these values can illuminate the dramatic and philosophical import of Plato’s Socrates in ways potentially relevant to current thinking about “demokratia”.

    Charis and Charites.T. Zielinski - 1924 - Classical Quarterly 18 (3-4):158-.
On inquiring into the nature of the Charites one may be astonished at the disagreement of their compounding elements. On the one hand, they appear as the very representatives and even personification of gracefulness and charm, brightness, and joy; their name itself seems to testify this, closely allied as it is with the verb χαρειν besides the particular names of the most renowned Hesiodic trinity—Aglaia, Euphrosyne, and Thalia—that is to say, brilliancy, mirth, and florescence. Hence arose the Roman conception of (...)

  10. Albert Camus and Indian Thought.Sharad Chandra - 1989 - National Pub. House.
The theme of essential futility, absurdity, utter incomprehensibility of life and death is stressed in almost allthe writings of Albert Camus. Like Buddha he was shocked by the sight of human misery and mortality. Yet, paradoxically was attracted to the essential desirability of it. Although completely ruffled by the consciousness of an ambiguous and silent God, he was not unaware of “that strange joy that comes from a tranquil conscience”, a perfect inner harmony one experiences on attaining true knowledge. Upanishads (...)

    Mind–Body Interaction and Modern Physics.Charis Anastopoulos - 2021 - Foundations of Physics 51 (3):1-27.
The idea that mind and body are distinct entities that interact is often claimed to be incompatible with physics. The aim of this paper is to disprove this claim. To this end, we construct a broad mathematical framework that describes theories with mind–body interaction as an extension of current physical theories. We employ histories theory, i.e., a formulation of physical theories in which a physical system is described in terms of a set of propositions about possible evolutions of the system (...)

The idea that mind and body are distinct entities that interact is often claimed to be incompatible with physics. The aim of this paper is to disprove this claim. To this end, we construct a broad mathematical framework that describes theories with mind-body interaction (MBI) as an extension of current physical theories. We employ histories theory, i.e., a formulation of physical theories in which a physical system is described in terms of (i) a set of propositions about possible evolutions of (...)

Classical Versus Quantum Probability in Sequential Measurements.Charis Anastopoulos - 2006 - Foundations of Physics 36 (11):1601-1661.
We demonstrate in this paper that the probabilities for sequential measurements have features very different from those of single-time measurements. First, they cannot be modelled by a classical stochastic process. Second, they are contextual, namely they depend strongly on the specific measurement scheme through which they are determined. We construct Positive-Operator-Valued measures (POVM) that provide such probabilities. For observables with continuous spectrum, the constructed POVMs depend strongly on the resolution of the measurement device, a conclusion that persists even if we (...)

Behind the scenes of a learning agri-food value chain: lessons from action research.Charis Linda Braun, Vera Bitsch & Anna Maria Häring - 2022 - Agriculture and Human Values 39 (1):119-134.
The development of sustainable agri-food systems requires not only new academic knowledge, but also concrete social and organizational change in practice. This article reflects on the action research process that supported and explored the learning process in an emerging agri-food value chain in the Berlin-Brandenburg region in eastern Germany. The action research study involved value chain actors, academic researchers, and process facilitators in a learning network. By framing the network’s learning and problem solving processes in concepts of organizational learning, lessons (...)

  29. Toward a Political Critique of Reification: Lukács, Honneth and the Aims of Critical Theory.Anita Chari - 2010 - Philosophy and Social Criticism 36 (5):587-606.
This article engages Axel Honneth’s recent work on Georg Lukács’ concept of reification in order to formulate a politically relevant and historically specific critique of capitalism that is applicable to theorizing contemporary democratic practice. I argue that Honneth’s attempt to reorient the critique of reification within the terms of a theory of recognition has done so at the cost of sacrificing the core of the concept, which forged a connection between the socio-political analysis of capitalist domination and an analysis of (...)

Automated Progress-Monitoring for Literate Language Use in Narrative Assessment.Carly Fox, Sharad Jones, Sandra Laing Gillam, Megan Israelsen-Augenstein, Sarah Schwartz & Ronald Bradley Gillam - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
Language sample analysis is an important practice for providing a culturally sensitive and accurate assessment of a child's language abilities. A child's usage of literate language devices in narrative samples has been shown to be a critical target for evaluation. While automated scoring systems have begun to appear in the field, no such system exists for conducting progress-monitoring on literate language usage within narratives. The current study aimed to develop a hard-coded scoring system called the Literate Language Use in Narrative (...)

    Criminal Law Guilt and Ontological Guilt: A Heideggerian Perspective.Charis N. Papacharalambous - 2022 - Law and Critique 33 (2):149-173.
The paper deals with the notion of guilt according to Heidegger’s philosophy and its repercussions for the understanding of guilt according to criminal law doctrine and theory. Heidegger’s notion on guilt is tantamount to Dasein’s incapacity to exhaust all its existential possibilities, whereas legal guilt has to do only with man’s legal indebtedness, which is an aspect of inauthenticity, a deficient mode of ontological responsibility. This does not mean, though, sheer amoralism or apologetics to violence. In late Heidegger one may (...)
