Semantic and Subword Priming During Binocular Suppression.Patricia Costello, Yi Jiang, Brandon Baartman, Kristine McGlennen & Sheng He - 2009 - Consciousness and Cognition 18 (2):375-382.
In general, stimuli that are familiar and recognizable have an advantage of predominance during binocular rivalry. Recent research has demonstrated that familiar and recognizable stimuli such as upright faces and words in a native language could break interocular suppression faster than their matched controls. In this study, a visible word prime was presented binocularly then replaced by a high-contrast dynamic noise pattern presented to one eye and either a semantically related or unrelated word was introduced to the other eye. We (...)

Different Efficiencies of Attentional Orienting in Different Wandering Minds.Nantu Hu, Sheng He & Baihua Xu - 2012 - Consciousness and Cognition 21 (1):139-148.
This study examined the relations between properties of attentional networks and Mind Wandering across individuals. For the attentional networks, we measured three components of attention, known as alerting, orienting, and executive control, using the Attention Network Test . To investigate MW, we measured thought probes embedded in the Sustained Attention to Response Task . Moreover, four performance characteristics of the SART were calculated as behavioral indices of MW. Three of them showed significant associations with probed MW. Most research regarding MW (...)

A New Perspective to Algebraic Characterization on Controllability of Multiagent Systems.Bo Liu, Housheng Su, Licheng Wu & Shengchao He - 2020 - Complexity 2020:1-12.
Recently, algebraic characterization of multiagent controllability through its topology has been widely concerned by the systems and control community. The controllability of leader-follower networked multiagent systems under the framework of generic linear dynamics is firstly discussed via λ-matrix. Some new algebra-theoretic necessary and/or sufficient conditions of the controllability for generic linear multiagent systems are established. Moreover, the controllable conditions for multiagent networks with special topological graphs through λ-matrix are presented.

A non-repeated item design refers to an experimental design in which items used in one level of experimental conditions are not repeatedly used at other levels. Recent literature has suggested the use of generalized linear mixed-effects models for experimental data analysis, but the existing specification of GLMMs does not account for all possible dependencies among the outcomes in NRI designs. Therefore, the current study proposed a GLMM with a level-specific item random effect for NRI designs. The hypothesis testing performance of (...)

Cyber-physical systems are characterized by integrating computation and physical processes. To cope with the challenges of the application of the CPSs in all kinds of environments, especially the cellular vehicle-to-everything which needs high quality end-to-end communication, the robustness and reliability for CPSs are very crucial. Aiming at the technical challenges of information transmission caused by the fading effect and the fast time-varying characteristics of the channel for C-V2X communication, an improved Tomlinson–Harashima precoding algorithm for multiple input multiple output systems is (...)

There has been some research conducted regarding nurses’ career success aimed at exploring its influencing factors, but there is no research on the mechanism of self-identity on the career success of infection control nurses. In order to further explore the formation mechanism of career success of nurses, we conducted our study using the Kaleidoscope Career Model to explore the chain-mediating effects of cognitive emotion regulation and social support between self-identity and career success. Five hundred forty-seven infection control nurses from nine (...)

  22. Multistability in a Fractional-Order Centrifugal Flywheel Governor System and Its Adaptive Control.Bo Yan, Shaobo He & Shaojie Wang - 2020 - Complexity 2020:1-11.
In this paper, a 4D fractional-order centrifugal flywheel governor system is proposed. Dynamics including the multistability of the system with the variation of system parameters and the derivative order are investigated by Lyapunov exponents, bifurcation diagram, phase portrait, entropy measure, and basins of attraction, numerically. It shows that the minimum order for chaos of the fractional-order centrifugal flywheel governor system is q = 0.97, and the system has rich dynamics and produces multiple coexisting attractors. Moreover, the system is controlled by (...)

AimWe aim to explore the impact of occupational stress on the quality of life of nurses in infectious disease departments and to explore the mediating role of psychological resilience on this impact.BackgroundSudden public health events and the prevalence of infectious diseases give nurses in infectious disease departments a heavy task load and high occupational stress, which can affect their quality of life, and which is closely related to the quality of clinical care they provide. There are few existing studies on (...)

The recent social encyclical Fratelli tutti provides the Chinese Catholic Church with renewed hope in a time of sweeping impasses. This article is inspired by Pope Francis’s passionate summons for the centrality of love, a culture of encounter, and a new social and political order. It presents an utterance of a laywoman rising from the Chinese Church, aspiring to dialogue with the encyclical. By weaving Francis’s vision together with the wisdom of Carmelite saints and my personal knowledge of the Chinese (...)
