  3. Global business ethics: responsible decision making in an international context.Ronald D. Francis - 2015 - Philadelphia: Kogan Page.
Corporate social responsibility, sustainability and acting ethically are all accepted business aims, but their meaning and implementation in a global context is far less clear-cut. Global Business Ethics cuts through the confusion to provide a coherent basis for ethical decision-making within the complications of the international business landscape. Underpinned by theory and including worked-through examples of ethical dilemmas and their solutions, this textbook will guide the reader beyond theory to real-world business decisions. Practical tools such as decision trees and suggested (...)

Ronald D. Laing’s “Radical Trip”. Reflection on the Relationship Between Psychiatry, Anti-Psychiatry, and Science in the 1960s. [REVIEW]Marina Lienhard - 2022 - NTM Zeitschrift für Geschichte der Wissenschaften, Technik und Medizin 30 (4):445-471.
Inspired by American research on the role of the family environment in the development of schizophrenia, the Scottish psychiatrist Ronald D. Laing, now known as the figurehead of British antipsychiatry, began his own research project with his colleague Aaron Esterson in the late 1950s. In the process, he became convinced that those diagnosed as “schizophrenic” were far more rational than bourgeois families alienated from themselves. Driven by this perspective, Laing pushed harder into the public arena and began to become (...)

    Moral Indifference.Ronald D. Milo - 1981 - The Monist 64 (3):373-393.
Is it possible for a person to believe that an act is morally wrong even though he himself does not disapprove of such acts—except, perhaps, in those cases where he is the victim of such acts? Does it make sense to suppose that a person could judge that one is morally obligated to act in a certain way even though he himself has no disposition whatsoever to act in such a way? Although I am inclined to think that the ordinary (...)

    Moral Deadlock.Ronald D. Milo - 1986 - Philosophy 61 (238):453-471.
Very often moral disagreements can be resolved by appealing to factual considerations because in these cases the parties to the dispute agree as to which factual considerations are relevant. They agree, that is, with respect to their basic moral standards. Hence, when their disagreement about the non-moral facts is resolved, so is their moral disagreement. But sometimes moral disagreement persists in spite of agreement on factual considerations. When this happens, and when neither party is guilty of illogical thinking, we have (...)

    Virtue, Knowledge, and Wickedness.Ronald D. Milo - 1998 - Social Philosophy and Policy 15 (1):196-215.
Is it possible for a person to understand that what he proposes to do is morally wrong and yet prefer to do it nonetheless? I shall argue that wickedness consists in a defect of character that results in one's often having just such preferences. Yet many philosophers think that wickedness so conceived is impossible, because, for them, having such a preference is incompatible with believing, or at least knowing, that the act would be wrong.

    Skepticism and Moral Justification.Ronald D. Milo - 1993 - The Monist 76 (3):379-393.
The moral skeptic challenges us to show that we are justified in accepting certain moral judgments rather than others; for the skeptic doubts that any rational basis can be found for such preferences. Theories of moral justification attempt to answer this challenge by specifying some procedure by means of which moral judgments can be justified.

This text engages preservice and practicing teachers in considering some of the complex issues related to religion and teaching that all educators face in their interactions with students, parents, administrators, and fellow teachers. The questions are not just about what is legal and what is not, but how a teacher should act in the best interests of all students, both those who are religious and those who are not. This book does not provide answers. Its goal is to cause readers (...)

Archival Ethics and the Professionalization of Archival Enterprise.Ronald D. Houston - 2013 - Journal of Information Ethics 22 (2):46-60.
Archival codes of ethics currently substitute lists of rules for moral guidance, possibly worsening a lack of societal respect for archives and archivists. This paper recommends the adoption of principal precepts to guide archivists in unfamiliar situations and to enhance the professionalization of archival enterprise. These principal precepts are confidentiality, dissociation, veracity, and "avoidance of the irreversible." Adoption of these precepts will move archival enterprise toward meriting the "Public Trust" and acceptance as a "trust profession.".

Population aging and the economic role of the elderly: Bonanza or burden?Ronald D. Lee - 2010 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 33 (1):31-32.
As societies industrialize, the age profile of consumption tilts strongly toward the elderly, while elder labor supply drops. Low fertility and long life lead to population aging. For millennia, material resources have, on net, flowed downward from older to younger within populations, but now in many rich societies net flows have reversed and go upwards from young to old.
