    Immorality.Ronald Dmitri Milo - 1984 - Princeton University Press.
This book explores a much-neglected area of moral philosophy--the typology of immorality. Ronald D. Milo questions the adequacy of Aristotle's suggestion that there are two basic types of immorality--wickedness and moral weakness--and argues that we must distinguish between at least six different types of immoral behavior. Originally published in 1984. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of (...)

    Moral Indifference.Ronald D. Milo - 1981 - The Monist 64 (3):373-393.
Is it possible for a person to believe that an act is morally wrong even though he himself does not disapprove of such acts—except, perhaps, in those cases where he is the victim of such acts? Does it make sense to suppose that a person could judge that one is morally obligated to act in a certain way even though he himself has no disposition whatsoever to act in such a way? Although I am inclined to think that the ordinary (...)

What is the total number of protein molecules per cell volume? A call to rethink some published values.Ron Milo - 2013 - Bioessays 35 (12):1050-1055.
Novel methods such as mass‐spectrometry enable a view of the proteomes of cells in unprecedented detail. Recently, these efforts have culminated in quantitative measurements of the number of copies per cell for most expressed proteins in organisms ranging from bacteria to mammalian cells. Here, we estimate the expected total number of proteins per unit of cell volume using known parameters related to the composition of cells such as the fraction of cell mass that is protein, and the average protein length. (...)

    Moral Deadlock.Ronald D. Milo - 1986 - Philosophy 61 (238):453-471.
Very often moral disagreements can be resolved by appealing to factual considerations because in these cases the parties to the dispute agree as to which factual considerations are relevant. They agree, that is, with respect to their basic moral standards. Hence, when their disagreement about the non-moral facts is resolved, so is their moral disagreement. But sometimes moral disagreement persists in spite of agreement on factual considerations. When this happens, and when neither party is guilty of illogical thinking, we have (...)

    Virtue, Knowledge, and Wickedness.Ronald D. Milo - 1998 - Social Philosophy and Policy 15 (1):196-215.
Is it possible for a person to understand that what he proposes to do is morally wrong and yet prefer to do it nonetheless? I shall argue that wickedness consists in a defect of character that results in one's often having just such preferences. Yet many philosophers think that wickedness so conceived is impossible, because, for them, having such a preference is incompatible with believing, or at least knowing, that the act would be wrong.

Are nicotinic acetylcholine receptors coupled to G proteins?Nadine Kabbani, Jacob C. Nordman, Brian A. Corgiat, Daniel P. Veltri, Amarda Shehu, Victoria A. Seymour, David J. Adams, Zeljko Durdevic, Matthias Schaefer & Ron Milo - 2013 - Bioessays 35 (12):1025-1034.
It was, until recently, accepted that the two classes of acetylcholine (ACh) receptors are distinct in an important sense: muscarinic ACh receptors signal via heterotrimeric GTP binding proteins (G proteins), whereas nicotinic ACh receptors (nAChRs) open to allow flux of Na+, Ca2+, and K+ ions into the cell after activation. Here we present evidence of direct coupling between G proteins and nAChRs in neurons. Based on proteomic, biophysical, and functional evidence, we hypothesize that binding to G proteins modulates the activity (...)

    Skepticism and Moral Justification.Ronald D. Milo - 1993 - The Monist 76 (3):379-393.
The moral skeptic challenges us to show that we are justified in accepting certain moral judgments rather than others; for the skeptic doubts that any rational basis can be found for such preferences. Theories of moral justification attempt to answer this challenge by specifying some procedure by means of which moral judgments can be justified.
