Cultivating Organizations as Healing Spaces: A Typology for Responding to Suffering and Advancing Social Justice.Reut Livne-Tarandach, Erica Steckler, Jennifer Leigh & Sara Wheeler-Smith - 2021 - Humanistic Management Journal 6 (3):373-404.
Historic inequities exacerbated by COVID-19 and spotlighted by social justice movements like Black Lives Matter have reinforced the necessity and urgency for societies and organizations to bring healing into focus. However, few integrated models exist within management and organization scholarship to guide practice. In response, our focus aims to unpack how organizations can become healing spaces. This paper offers a holistic definition of healing as the foundation for a new conceptual model of organizations as healing spaces. Drawing upon literature from (...)

Humanistic Management of Social Innovation in Service : an Interdisciplinary Framework.Sertan Kabadayi, Linda Alkire, Garrett M. Broad, Reut Livne-Tarandach, David Wasieleski & Ann Marie Puente - 2019 - Humanistic Management Journal 4 (2):159-185.
Humanistic Management and Transformative Service Research literatures share the common goal of addressing the increasingly growing global challenges faced by humanity. Recently, organizations have been called to further engage in social innovation in service in an attempt to address these challenges. However, the existing service literature does not offer explicit processes regarding how to manage these social innovation efforts at the human interaction level. By drawing on both Humanistic Management and Service literatures, this paper develops a conceptual framework to guide (...)

Cognitive fusion and emotion differentiation: does getting entangled with our thoughts dysregulate the generation, experience and regulation of emotion?Reut Plonsker, Dana Gavish Biran, Ariel Zvielli & Amit Bernstein - 2017 - Cognition and Emotion 31 (6):1286-1293.
We tested whether cognitive fusion impairs emotion differentiation and thereby mediates relations between cognitive fusion and depression and panic symptoms among 55 adults, 50.9% women). Using visual stimuli, we elicited multiple emotion states and measured emotional intensity – the subjective emotion intensity of elicited emotions, as well as emotional differentiation – the degree of co-activation of multiple negative emotions when a specific emotion was elicited. First, as hypothesised, we found that cognitive fusion predicted lower levels of emotion differentiation. In contrast, (...)

    Position effect variegation and chromatin proteins.Gunter Reute & Pierre Spierer - 1992 - Bioessays 14 (9):605-612.
Variegated phenotypes often result from chromosomal rearrangements that place euchromatic genes next to heterochromatin. In such rearrangements, the condensed structure of heterochromatin can spread into euchromatic regions, which then assume the morphology of heterochromatin and become transcriptionally inactive. In position‐effect variegation (PEV) therefore, gene inactivation results from a change in chromatin structure. PEV has been intensively investigated in the fruitfly Drosophila, where the phenomenon allows a genetic dissection of chromatin components. Consequently, many genes have been identified which, when mutated, act (...)

Toward a sociology of finitude: life, death, and the question of limits.Roi Livne - 2021 - Theory and Society 50 (6):891-934.
Progressing beyond the given has been a key modern tendency. Yet modern societies are currently facing the problem of how to put limits on progress, expansion, and growth, live within them, and preserve (rather than transcend) the present. Drawing on economic sociology scholarship on valuation and morality in economic life, this article develops and applies the term economization to analyze the enactment of limits on progress. The question of end-of-life care—when to stop medical efforts to prolong life, postpone death, and (...)

Gendering security: The substantive representation of women in the Israeli parliament.Chen Friedberg & Reut Itzkovitch-Malka - 2018 - European Journal of Women's Studies 25 (4):419-439.
The study focuses on the links between gender and national security in the legislative arena in Israel, considering whether men and women legislators prioritize security differently, alongside other thematic policy areas. The centrality of national security issues in Israeli politics makes it a good case study for these questions, as it enhances existing gendered stereotypes. The article examines two competing hypotheses. The first suggests that Israeli female legislators will mostly refrain from addressing national security policy issues, focusing instead on softer (...)

Distinctiveness Benefits Novelty , but Only Up to a Limit: The Prior Knowledge Perspective.Niv Reggev, Reut Sharoni & Anat Maril - 2018 - Cognitive Science 42 (1):103-128.
Novelty is a pivotal player in cognition, and its contribution to superior memory performance is a widely accepted convention. On the other hand, mnemonic advantages for familiar information are also well documented. Here, we examine the role of experimental distinctiveness as a potential explanation for these apparently conflicting findings. Across two experiments, we demonstrate that conceptual novelty, an unfamiliar combination of familiar constituents, is sensitive to its experimental proportions: Improved memory for novelty was observed when novel stimuli were relatively rare. (...)

A multimodal approach for the ecological investigation of sustained attention: A pilot study.Keren Avirame, Noga Gshur, Reut Komemi & Lena Lipskaya-Velikovsky - 2022 - Frontiers in Human Neuroscience 16:971314.
Natural fluctuations in sustained attention can lead to attentional failures in everyday tasks and even dangerous incidences. These fluctuations depend on personal factors, as well as task characteristics. So far, our understanding of sustained attention is partly due to the common usage of laboratory setups and tasks, and the complex interplay between behavior and brain activity. The focus of the current study was thus to test the feasibility of applying a single-channel wireless EEG to monitor patterns of sustained attention during (...)
